I had an chinese guy on my door yesterday evening telling me he is from Ontario Energy company who is distributing power to all the individual hydro companies. He asked me to sign a contract with them to provide electricity instead of Brampton Hydroone & he can reduce my all day power charges to 5.9 cents and thus saving me from the Hydro company scams..

I felt a bit fishy & asked about his company name. As soon as he told me the company's name is JUST ENERGY, I googled the company on my smart phone which was in my pocket. BOOM.... all the web pages which came up was of the SCAM Alerts..I showed it to the guy & the guy was still defending himself that this is done by the government so that the distributers (Brampton Hydroone in my case) does not go bankrupt and can continue to rip customers all around Canada with higher charges.

I told him to please go and never come back in my property again, but then right now I am wondering weather I should have call the cops & got this guys arrested for running scams. They might have gone to all the houses and there are so many poor new home owners & immigrants who might fall into this..

Just alerting the forum here about the one of the many scams going on in the markets... Just google the company first before signing any paper

Yeah I seen these kindz of guys show up on my door steps as well. Anyone who asks for your energy bills and tries to sale you on contract, just shoo them away. Chinese are very persistant..his tone was more threatning "Dont you want to save ? etc.." and disgusting especially when they show up immediately after having their meal. ..even from 3 feet their breath stinks..that itself makes you not to sign anything.

These salesmen are just doing their jobs. Don't shoot the messanger.

If you're really serious about getting someone from the company arrested, it's these high paying executives in plush offices and decision makers. Report them to the CBC Marketplace, so they could publish or showcase their story. Here's the contact info:

Lambasting an employee who is just trying to feed his family by making sales doesn't make an iota of sense.

It is not possible to call cops and get somebody arrested just like that. I think the business is legitimate but tricks used by their sales agents might not be but it is a contract and you are supposed to read it before you sign it.

You get 10 days to change your mind and cancel a contract.
