OCI Application Time Frame At Toronto BLS Office

Hi there,

I have applied for OCI for me & my family on July 26th, 2013, but still now I haven't even received my original documents back. I am wondering about how long is it taking to get new OCI booklet now at Toronto office. As I have planned to go to India in Oct, I am now worried as I thought before that it would take 2 - 2 1/2 months for whole process, but that doesn't look same now. Can please anybody share their experience who have recently applied for OCI & when they have received it?

You should be fine for October. If you've applied on July 26th, you should have received the originals by now. Did you go to the BLS office and inquire?

Don't call, just walk into the BLS office and give them the details.

Here are my timelines for transferring the U-sticker. The timelines are the same for a new OCI

Applied: May 4th, 2013
Received Originals: June 6th, 2013 (after I went to the BLS office and inquired)
Documents recd from India: July 2nd, 2013

So it take approx. 2 months end-to-end

Can one apply for the surrender certificate/renunciation of Indian citizenship and for the OCI together?

Please share if you know anything on the topic.

Thanks for the reply sudesingh, I haven't received my originals so far that's what I am concerned about. I haven't been to BLS office but will definitely go and inquire now.
I am not sure if this return of documents will cause any delay in the issuance of booklet too?

No you need to have the surrender certificate in order to apply for OCI. So you got to apply for the certificate first which usually takes 2 to 3 weeks to get it, then after you can apply for OCI.

We have applied for surrender certificate on July 19th and we check online everyday but it just says processing at consular general, can anyone throw lights on how long does it take for surrender certificate? How can we inquire besides looking up on their website? please reply any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Parag.

we are also in the same boat, my spouse and I applied mid july I received the certificate last week(they will give back the passport back with surrendered stamp and one printout!) my spouse status still says Processing at consulate it is almost 2 months now! BLS just ask us to check website they have no idea as well! (Even if you call they will say the same thing)...need to wait i guess
