Hi All,
I am in a situation here and need your expert guidance.
I will be travelling for couple of weeks to India in March2014 which I planned few months back. All of a sudden I got citizenship test date end of Feb2014.
I am fine with the test as I am confident that I will pass it.
The issue here is Oath ceremony, after two weeks of test I will be travelling to India should I tell CIC that I will take Oath after my vacation which will be end of March2014?
As I know that once I take Oath my India citizenship is cancelled.
Any suggestion? Should I inform CIC to delay my Oath after my test or not?
Appreciate all your guidance!
Thanks
A
The safest route will be to inform the CIC about your unavailability dates. But if your trip is going to be quick, do you think you will come back before the oath date?
Your Test date is end of February and the CIC gives at least 2 weeks notice for your oath (most likely 3 weeks to a month). If this timeframe is correct for your area, then you have to decide if you can take the chances..

Hi Aditya,
In Mississauga, one gets the Oath Ceremony 1 week after taking the citizenship Test. So, here is what you can do :
- Take the citizenship Test. Within half an hour or so, you will be called to have discussion with citizenship Judge. you will know if you passed and if so, what mark you got ( out of 20)
- At this point, tell him/her that you won't be available from Date X to Date Y. They will input that data in their system, so you wont receive any letter inviting you for Oath within that date range.
- After 1-2 days, call 1-800 Number to CIC and confirm that this Note of date unavailability is indeed in your file ( this step is to confirm )
However, they were not ready to commit on when exactly you will get the oath letter, once your End Date has lapsed!
Anyway, one can follow up with them for that....all the best!
Thanks alot Howzatt and cdn_dude!
I will be back in two weeks before end of March(8-22).
My worry is will the Judge or the staff will consider my request to delay my Oath Ceremony or it will create further questions/trouble in my process?
I am going first time in 4 yrs to India and this is what happened.

It is always to better to call CIC and explain your situation. They will advise you.
