Missed cic's invite to attend citizenship test scheduled on Jan 2014. Mails got delayed since i relocated last month and didn't check mails or update cic on time. Post 9/2013, cic is very strict and sends only 1 invite and don't accepts mail delay reason. CIC asked me to send a letter and i need help from immigration experts or anyone gone thro this process recently. How to prove in the letter that i missed due to relocation hassle and handling a small baby at the same time. Please suggest me since i want to avoid RQ or rejection.
Nothing to worry much.
It can always happen. That's way whenever you move ... you have to make sure that your mail is forwarded to new address.
Just write a letter and request CIC with a proof of new address and request them to schedule a new date .... do it immediately to avoid RQ. Send the letter through express post
Thanks Gurram for the reply. I am worried since cic have made it clear in the mail which they replied to me that if the test is missed without reasonable explaination they will dismiss my application and post 9/13 i haven't heard anyone getting away with this explaination. And as per the rule i am supposed to update the change which i missed out. I emailed to few lawyers since i want help drafting a good letter but none replied satisfactorily unless I take paid consultation but warned me that if my reason is not justified then cic will decline or delay my application. Please help me to phrase so that cic will believe me. I resigned my old job in December 2013. Does that help in proving my presence in Canada. Thanks in advance
Don't fret and fume over simple issues ...
Was it the first invitation in which case you should automatically get the 2nd one ... For the 1st default , they are quite lenient as there could be genuine reasons such as change of address or visiting out of the country ( happened to me in 2011) .
In fact I was told that the 2nd invitation was automated if the first date was missed ...However if this was the 2nd or the 3rd invite and you missed 2 or 3 invites , it might be construed as that you are not interested in citizenship and in which case good explanations should hold ....
Try sending fax to authorized numbers or registered post / express post ..Both constitute legal communication..I think providing your last utility bill @ the old place and the 1st utility bill @ the new place should be sufficient enough .
Do not bother going to lawyers ..You don't need that and they are doing a business so would make you believe that you are in problem and you must hire them .
You are past the RQ stage so don't worry about that .

Dear Sir,
I changed my residence on (Give the date) and I forgot to provide you with the NEW forwarding address. The redirected mail from my previous address was delayed and I received the same after the Citizenship Test date and hence I could not attend on that date. Please provide me with a second opportunity and a new date and I will surely come down and take the test on that date.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,

Thanks Fido, Looks like this is my first letter but rules have changed since 2011. I think they don't send multiple invites. Hopefully they accept my explanation. I have seen forums where people missed 2 invites and still could reschedule but all those were old posts.....didn't see anyone's case after the new rule came into effect. I was also expecting to see if someone shares similar experience post sept 2013. Hopefully everything works out fine..thanks for sharing your experience though.
Thanks Full house. Appreciate your help in writing the letter. Also i posted my problem to see if anyone had a similar experience recently after the new rules came into effect. I already send a email to cic and they informed me to write a letter. I am not sure whether cic will accept this mistake of not updating address.....since as per new law, they may permit u to reappear only if u r away to attend dying parent or met with an accident or illness or missed because of third party fault. I don't fall into any of these categories. Anyways, I want to thank everyone for taking their valuable time and helping me out.
