Hi Folks,
We have ppl posting information here about Citizenship timelines etc. etc. "when do I get my oath, when do I get my fingerprint results etc. etc.".. I would like to make a suggestion to the admis here. Why dont we have a "sticky" thread on each forum that highlights these parts, i.e., a sticky thread for citizenship and a sticky thread for immigration (highlighting the timelines and other experiences). That way ppl can refer to those threads and go on posting there rather than starting new threads which get lost as time goes by.

I would like to kickstart this process with my application process. Here is a "cut & paste" from the CIC website. At suitable places I will make my comments

*--------------------------------------------*
We received your application for grant of Canadian citizenship (adult) on November 18, 2002.

We sent you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application, and a study book called A Look at Canada on November 18, 2002.

We started processing your application on December 27, 2002.

We sent you a letter on December 27, 2002 to ******************(my address). If you have not yet provided the information, please do so as soon as possible. If this address is not correct, please contact us. Thank you.

Your file was transferred on February 17, 2003 to the Ottawa office for the citizenship testing and taking of the citizenship oath. The Ottawa office will contact you to write the Citizenship test.

We sent you a letter on ******************* (my address). If you have not yet provided the information, please do so as soon as possible. If this address is not correct, please contact us. Thank you.

We sent you a notice on May 28, 2004 to ************ (my address) to appear and write the Citizenship test on June 12, 2004 at 10:30am

We sent you a notice on June 23, 2004 to ************ (my address) to appear for the Oath of citizenship on July 9, 2004.

*------------------------------------------------------------*

A mistake that I made :-
If you read the chronology you will see that a letter was sent to me on Dec. 27, 2002. This was because I had forgotten to sign the passport photographs. That resulted in a delay of 2 months. Please make sure you sign your photographs before you send your application.

Comments :-
1.) The police verification took 5 months. RCMP HQ recvd the request from CIC on Sept 15, 2003 and then sent it back on Feb 15, 2004.

2.) I had to go and ask the Processing centre @ Ottawa for my fingerprinting letter as they did not yet send it. I recvd that letter , in person, on Aug 14, 2003 and submitted it the same day.

3.) Ppl often wonder abt the Citizenship test. When I took the test the alloted time was 30 mins. Pls dont laugh, but I finished the test in 2 mins (maybe even less). The last 4 questions should be easy for all Indians, as they ask you questions about how bills are passed in the parliament and what are your rights as a citizen. Make sure that you always read the longest answer (something to do with voting) and that should be your choice. Of cos it helps to have a parliamentary democracy back home in India :). The results were announced immediately. i.e June 12th

4.) You do not need any other study guide for the test. Just read the booklet sent my CIC. It should be sufficient for all questions (barring of course "who is the current party in power in Canada" )..and such questions. For that, just follow the news :)

A word of caution. This chronology may not be applicable for everyone. Processing times and requirements have all changed. I applied under the old rules for citizenship.

Hope this information helps everyone. Would request the admins to make this a sticky post and encourage everyone to post their chronologies here (along with suggestions etc.)

Very interesting to read chronology.
One question,

How could you know RCMP received finger prints on September 15 for verification?

Mailed it to me, by registered post. Is it normal ? I cant answer that. Maybe others can relate their experiences about obtaining a passport. BUt I must add this;
They like to verify your credentials and that may take some time ( which is the time they ask i.e., 10 days or 20 days). In this case, my Ph.D supervisor signed on as a guarantor; Ottawa U is right downtown (or a local fone call away). So I guess they did not have to verify many things.

Did you apply for yor passport also ? Can you share your Citizenship chronology with us here Ottawa :)

I am far from passport . My citizenship process just started...
You mention "verify your credentials " ...what do you mean by that? I though they do this during the citizenship process..not at the time they issue passport?
