Dear Friends,

I'm glad to read all your posts & updates on Canada Living. We (wife & Kid) are thrilled to get our PR in Qatar on April 2014 and plan to move from Mumbai by Mid August to Mississauga, Toronto. I shall be sending a sea cargo shipment from Qatar by Mid July (before I leave this place for good).

Now that most of you are well and happily settled in Toronto, we would appreciate if you all can assist us in providing contact details of good cost effective logistic agents or approx pricing in Toronto who can clear, transport & deliver the goods to Mississauga at Toronto side.

Qatar does not have that network and range like Dubai and therefore the agent has agreed to take charge of freight until goods land in Toronto only.

We look forward to your responses....It will be truly helpful

Many thanks for your efforts in posting and assisting others via this lovely forum

Welcome, Welcome & Welcome to the great land of Canada.
I look forward to have you well settled here so that you can start paying your taxes and this in turn will be used for Canada's development and channel into its old age social security schemes.
Now think if you really want to transport the good when similar items can be bought here at almost the same prices. What are the goods that you are sending?
Now Toronto airport does not have the red tapeism of India for clearing and you can do it straight away by yourself. Now all you need is a truck and some helpers to move your goods from the cargo place to your home / apt.. There are lots of people. You can find such people in Craigslist or Kijiji (recommended). There was one Mr. Guna, who used to charge around $ 130 an hour but he is no longer in business and he used to work on weekend only.

Seniors, esp. FH, will help you soon.

Thank you Mr. Krishna.

Appreciate your quick reply:-))

Specifically just want to make use of the free 1 time duty free cargo as we have a lot of things which cannot be sold firstly due to nostalgic reasons as well as they are in well maintained condition. It has been bought by hard earned money and just cannot part with it for cheaps.

The LCD TV /home theater/DVD player/PS3 (all dual voltage), winter clothes, suits, clothes general, basic utensils, shoes, blankets, kitchen utilities for few months , stationary items, cuckoo wall clocks, new towels, electrical tools & set, souvenirs, books etc etc

Goods are coming via sea and therefore costs / clearing agents details for clearance until delivery in Miss. Square 1 area would be great.

Await your feedback.....Do have a nice day ALL

SFX,
Understand your nostaligia but how much are you paying for transport from qatar to Toronto. Moving from Toronto to Mississauga might just set you back by $ 600 - $ 800.
On the first day of the cargo coming, where will you unload it? Will it be at the storage? Assuming that you will be spending $ 2000 for sending it from Qatar, your budget will be around $ 2800.
Now, Kitchen utensils and the like can be bought for $ 200 - $ 300. Bring all cloths, DVD player,PS3 in your luggage. LCD Tv can be bought in Canada for $ 1000. As you are not bringing SOfa, Bed, Dining table (this can cost just $ 1500 here at the max.), do you really want to send it by sea (unless your qatar company is paying the bill)?
See Kijiji.com. Unused stuff is sold there. Where will you be staying once you land here? Do you have a job waiting for you in Canada? What about your wife and children?
I would suggest you to live at Sheridan college hostels in Brampton. Terrific place for cheap price. Restaurants are at walking distance and you can cook at a common kitchen too.

Please tell us more of your settlement plans.

Of course seniors, esp. FH will advise us better.

Generally the mover, that is you, who will have to decide as to what you want to move with and find a broker of your choice. The dispatch agent might give you a suitable lead to an agent here in Mississauga and at the container peer by the water front. So, see if you will get an introduction to one such broker from the dispatch end.

Now when you say a container, we always think that you have a full load of items, which could be about 20 tons. Most of the local deliveries cannot handle more than 8 tons. That will put you into THREE local deliveries. Which will cost you around 2 grand. That is not including the clearance costs etc., If the container has 8 pallets (skids) then you will need open flat bed trucks and fork lifts. All of these services are available and it is for you to do the selection and proper choice of equipment and mover, because you know how it got loaded into the container.

Then the location to which it gets delivered enters the picture. Can you get them all in. Do you have a place large enough to accommodate all of the deliveries into one centralized location. In short is the rental place big enough to permit the ingress of 20 tons of goods that are being delivered to the door. Alternately, find a storage and hold it temporarily till you find a location close to your work place or close to a school for the kid/s. You are moving to a new place and you ought to know all of these within a very short period and make a very quick decision. Is there anybody here who will do the work for you behind the scenes and take care of your interests.

A good THREE BR house will set you back by 1800 bucks a month, add to that all of the utilities, you will have a good picture of your expenses. This might hold half the gear you are hauling. The other half will have to enter
into a storage facility. Are the skids marked in a fashion that will enable you to sort to which location it will go to? All of the above are planning of your move and there is NO hard and fast rule to it. So, get yourself a thinking cap and do the spade work before you land here. I know you are at the first step. Even that you will have to work it out smoothly and hope no glitches enter into it.

Here is a a small bit of help to you get a picture and get into each web site and explore it to the fullest and read and make some notes.
