The Great Canadian Healthcare System - One word for many words - "Frustrating"

I agree. Do you?
I strongly agree. Funny! I was just reading it on Huffington right when you posted it.
I think the key difference here is the age old Public/Private debate. Animals don't have to go to the Public system, while their owners proudly spend huge money on Private veterinarians.
I never understood what's wrong with trying an amalgamation of Public/Private healthcare here in Canada. Seriously, the healthcare sucks big time here. Before start singing praises, please note I have had enough visits to the ER, where I had to spend close to 8-12 hours before I (or my family) eventually saw a Doctor; and got the hell out after spending about $25-$50 on hospital parking.
Unfortunately, specialty children hospitals don't fare better as well.
Nothing surprising here! Animals in Canada do get better medical treatment than human beings.
If I start praising the Indian healthcare system now, I will get brick bats so let me try to tell on how to improve the Canadian health care system.
It is said that Ontario pays 54-64 cents of every tax dollars in healthcare. This is too huge to be spent on one basket.
What we should do is classify cases as : OP, Observation required, Moderate, urgent , critical.
Urgent and Critical cases should be free and get max. attention and funds. Paper work can be there.
For OP, Observation required,, one should be paying a part of OP (unless you are on welfare). Foreign trained doctors can be given limited immediate license to take care of these cases. Say you are educated in India, Russia, Philipines or Somalia, you can immediately start practice in OP and Observation required cases.
Generic drugs can be used instead of licenced drugs.
Multiple visits to the doctor (for second opinion ) should be stopped.
Hope this helps.

Unless you are an emergency patient, a human is treated worse than an animal. That's the truth of medical services.
There's a waiting list for almost everything. You cannot bypass the bureaucracy, irrespective of who you are. Several cases remains undiagnosed because they are referred too late to the specialists, & diagnostics has a big waiting list.
Good one Dhaikin ! You took the words from my mouth.
Going to a hospital should be like going to a restaurant. You should get good customer service (as you get in India as you pay from your pocket / insurance). In Canada, it is like getting a job. You have to beg and plead.
There are lot of notices stuck saying that if you mess with the medical people, police will be called which makes you intimidated.

Not everyone is USED to abuses . Hospitals signs clearly states - DO NOT ABUSE verbally or physically which many translates mess around ,,Huh
I am glad that we live in safe place where even verbal abuse is not taken as granted .
Seniors can advise ...
( but who is most senior here than our own Mr. !!! )

Growing Old Is Mandatory ..Growing UP is Optional
Food for thought - Is the place where Human is treated worse than animals is better than the place where animals are treated better than humans !!
