Hi all Seniors members,
My family and I are planning to move to Toronto, Ontario in the summer. We did our first landing in the summer of 2012. We got our PR/SIN cards in 2012.
1)I am planning to send in our personal belongings by air to Toronto. I checked with the cargo companies in my country to find out the cost involved.
Can you guys provide me a website who could get me exact information on the costs involved in Toronto Seaport while clearing personal belongings.
My cargo will be approx 300 kg.
What do they charge as:
a) Terminal receiving charges
b) Port Security charges
c) Handling fee
d) Dock loading fee
e) Any Tax for used personal belongings?
f) Any Tax for unused personal belongings?
g) Customs duty for used personal belongings?
h) Customs duty for unused personal belongings?
i) How long the cargo could be in Toronto port before levying demurrage charges? (Or within how many days the cargo should be cleared)
j) Any other cost involved in clearing from port
2)Does newly landed immigrant(and his family) has to pay taxes on settlement funds they brought to the country after the first landing,but didn't stay in Canada?(Neither the PA and not any family member)and does one has to pay taxes since his first landing?(As we didn't pay any tax and it would be 3 years this summer since our first landing)
3)As we would be 2 Adults and 3 kids-12yo.,11yo. and 5 yo. so will have 10 Trolley bags(Each of 23 kgs)and 3 Hand carries(9 kg each).I intend to catch a cab from YYZ and travel to the Hotel in the North York area?What is the best way to get there?Should I have to grab 2 large taxis for all my bags and 5 of us?Any Contact no.?

You seem to know quite a few items and I congratulate you on that. Preparing well before you get into Canada is best when you plan everything in advance.
ONE thing that I am confused about is the mode of your booking your baggage by air and your requesting here about the Sea Port details alongside of it.
1) Did you make a declaration of the GOODS to FOLLOW when you landed here first and if you submitted one copy to the Canadian Immigration people at that time? Also do you have a stamped copy with you to avoid paying any duty and other charges?
I will go to (3) after this. You can ask any airlines to provide you with a concessional rate, prior to booking your tickets through them, if you are carrying the EXCESS Baggage through them. Also, each and every one is allowed TWO suitcases and ONE carry on 9 kgs each and if they have wheels it should make it a lot easier for anyone to drag two of them from the plane to the CBSA check point. You should book a Guest House and the owner should be able to help, as they will have a garage to hold it after you reach that place. More on it later as it is not that pressing a subject at this moment. There are Extended vans available to transport and also the SKY caps with trolley service is available in the airports, for a flat fee, say $5/piece and they will be there at the baggage carousel.
2) As a NEW Immigrant you are permitted to carry much more than most of us can and so, you can bring into Canada what ever the amount you wish to carry, BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOU DECLARE ALL OF IT, and include the total of EVERY CENT the whole family carries, plus ONE. Also most of what you are bringing in whether it is new or used, will be free too.
For air cargo that accompanies you, you have to clear it and carry them out of the terminal, when depart the terminal. Baggage that follows you or has landed prior to your arrival, they provide you with a time span of 24 hours to clear it through the CBSA. Pack all of the bags YOURSELF and NUMBER the bags, and have the list with the quantity of items in EACH bag. There are prohibited items, such as GUNS, ammunition, fare crackers, Fruits, Green Vegetables, Processed Meats, Meats of any kind and the list goes on. Please see the CBSA website.

I am sure you are allowed FOUR Free days. Please make sure if you are booking it through an Air Carrier at the Booking End. It is normally half the rate if pre booked and the goods are to follow. fh
yes,I meant Air cargo which will deliver my cargo within a week from Middle East to Toronto.I asked that would I have to pay any charges,fees or demurrage for clearing the goods?Yup,I do have Goods to follow list.
And Do I have to pay taxes on my savings in Canadian bank?
Since it would be three years this May 2015,and I haven't paid any taxes for three years?Though we were not in Canada.

You can bring it in all of the goods afteer landing. Declare a second time all the items that are following you. (This time) and also show the first list too. That will help you bring any item you have there. No Problems. Be courteous and behave normally like a gentleman.
You keep track of the Baggage to come through the Airlines that will carry it for you. They will give you lots of time to do the clearing. (4 days FREE) But don't test your luck.
Everything is Copacetic.
No taxes on any money you bring in. Also bring all of it or partial amount from the overseas account. You are allowed to have a FOREIGN Bank Account. So, retain it.
Now if you come before your THREE years are up, you will have no problems, but there is no leeway in availing any breaks out of Canada. So, plan it well and have a few extra days to avail a break too. Keep count of the days. Also retain all of the travel history and the documents etc., from the day you landed here first. You will need it for your Citizenship, i.e., if you want to obtain one at a later date.
Also get a POLICE Clearance Certificate for each one of you before you leave the country you are now living in. It may be a little difficult later on. So, be smart and do the right thing.
