Would be really interesting to know directly from someone that resides in Alberta as to how the ground situation in Calgary or whole of Alberta is. Also, listened to the News this morning that another few of companies laid off workers just yesterday, and they are now heading home to their respective provinces.

Also, the housing has taken a hit in Calgary. I think the situation will further deteriorates once the EI for the laidoffs dries up in a few months or an year.

Might be a good place to invest in a rental property there, while the property prices cheapen out.

They couldn't even buy that in cash..lol..the interest rate is some ridiculous 20 % , in 36 months with interest its probably going to cost them $ 3,600 to buy the $ 1,700 sofa ..lol. But they don't care as all they see is that they ONLY have to pay $ 100 or something like that ( which they can afford ) per month for the next 36 months !

Bit surprised here!!

Leon's 36 months financing is interest free, only admin fee ($75) is charged if you want to clear account beyond 6 months.
So $1700 sofa set as of today will cost only $1775 even after 3 years, which is a good deal.

Lets not create any negative frenzy just because we want to prove our point. I have changed All home appliances paying exact price of appliances in monthly installments without shelling out heavy amount as down payment or interest. last month i suddenly realized 22 of 36 payments are made and it never pinched me and I have been using new refrigerator, cooking range, washer dryer all this while without a major dent in pocket.

Paying 200 Pm for a new car is still better deal than paying 10k lump-sum for a 5-6 years old car. ( a 5 years or beyond old car will require on average 50-100$ Pm maintenance, count old tires, engine belt, brake drums, seats). There is always a risk that you may not get a good deal always on used cars. there are horror stories. You feel bitten when an old car makes your wife and kids stranded in cold conditions or restrict yourself from long drive to other cities. All savings can go in one such incidence.
In the end the depreciation point comes to play only if you have paid full amount for a new car at outset which nobody should.

Regular payments makes sense for all salaried people.

SOME TIME GANG INCLUDE THOSE 2 OTHERS

Don't drag me. Never fought with her. Just pointed out something that was contentious. I hardly waste my energies picking up fights with complete strangers, when I have a wife at home ;).

1st reaction TK

topic may not highjack if anyone of you ignore some post/reactions---

we were discussing a really good topic - HW36 reminded TK something what he preached earlier - fido didn't waste a second to become lawyer of TK - as always somehow you come at # 3--let see who will join next.....and Monica will finally lock this good topic

That's another aspect. As long as you could secure interest free payments or the interest as low as 1% (or less), I think you should be good.

The problem with the high interest loans is that while the product that you purchased is getting depreciated, you're still paying interest on it, rather than buying it outright with cash.

Another problem is when the habit is formed to buy everything on installments - one hiccup with job and one is left high and dry with stress with regards to the upcoming payments.

Don't you have anything better to contribute to the discussions other than bickering or quarreling ?

When are you going on your next vacation BTW ;)

When you attack other members that's acceptable ... right ?

(Do you remember you called TK anti India because he is a Catholic and made a satirical joke on Febpreet also )

Check your previous posts in this thread .... before you start crying.
