Alberta is supposedly facing a huge housing shortage due to the influx of people from elsewhere. I think its prudent and although the journalist has given the news with a 'stay out' stance, if you read between the lines that is not what they are saying. They are saying to research and be prepared before you arrive.
I have heard that Alberta is booming. Calgary is home to many new young professionals.

But the truth of the matter is no matter how much you will earn in 'Booming' economy of Alberta. If at the end of the day you're all stranded in the bad housing or have to shed your hard earned dollars into a shit hole of $700,000 or a million, then it's not at all worth to move there. There's more to life than money. If money you earn is directly proportional to the expanse in any city then it doesn't matter whether you work/live in Alberta, Ontario, BC or any other province.
At the end of a day, having a roof on your head that is secure as well, matters a lot. If you're earning good and not happy at the end of the day because of housing, then it's better to earn less and have a decent and affordable townhouse in Brampton.
Trust me, above lines reflect experience. Been there done that.
I agree febpreet. However why would a person need to spend 700K or a million on a house?

Because thats the cost of houses in Alberta. Starting at 500,000 $ for a 20 year old house.

The same applies to Vancouver. 20 years old house for $600,000. Is it a joke or what? Suburban townhouses are also nowhere near to those in Mississauga and Brampton. Trust me!!
