Has anyone seen the movie 'O Kadhal Kanmani'? It's a Tamil movie by Mani Ratnam. I have heard a great reviews of the movie. I think it was released somewhere in GTA, but not the rest of Canada. Never have I ever read so many (good) reviews that too crop up almost every day even after a few weeks of its release, thus the interest. Though, I am interested to watch it, I would have to wait a bit longer for a good/original print to enjoy it.
How's it?
OK Kanmani has Malayalam superstar Mamooty's son as the hero. Like his father he too will be a very good ariste, unlike many other star off-springs. Dulqur has has done very well in a Malayalam movie which I happened to watch.
Better always to be cautious, not believe in media build up and reviews and not have expectations. When it is flop, we really get irritated. After Roja, that was around 1992, Mani Ratnam has hardly given any success like say Shankar. We are tempted to think Mani worries about a film only until he receives his fee.
We really feel sorry for the producers who bet on thinkers/intellectual film makers and artistes. In one recent movie, which attracted media attention for all the wrong reasons, when the hero crashes in to a moving car breaking the window glass, the story crashed out through the other window. Until then (30 minutes) the story line was very interesting. The action hero goes on ranting what he is. It would have better if he did only the action and left it for the viewers to decide about the character. Unfortunately, with all the star artistes, they have only sycophants hanging around them only to make a few money, but not give any good advice when the film goes wrong.
Some of the recent tamil movies do not have any notable star cast/expenditure w.r.to actors, directors or music composers but have come out as pleasant surprises for the viewers. One was Jigirdhanda based on rowdyism and violence in the city of Madurai in TN.

Another one in my list is: Uttama Villain. Looks different.
Any other Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, or Regional quality movies that you guys can recommend? Not the over the top action ones, please.

Kamal Hasan's Anbe Sivam, to me was his best, especially the dialogues between Kamal and Madhavan.

Feb,
Donot watch Anbe Sivam. You will not like it as you will not be able to understand the conversation.
Some of the best films that I have seen (in tamil) are :
1. Mahanathi (Kamal Hassan)
2. May mathan
All old ones (prior to 2000) but gold ones
