Hey guys, he's looking for help here. Maybe our thoughts can help change him and think rationally.
TK it's ur choice. What's wrong in her earning higher wages and contributing more. Be proud of her than being ashamed of urself or the situation. try working urself up in the meantime to help each other reach the goals and milestones both of u are aiming for.
just a question to you, the culture and area you talk about I am sure there must have been cases where the husband is on bed because of accidents or some illness and maybe the guy dad has also passed away. Should the wife go out and look for job and bring home bread or sit around and both should commit suicide because ur culture doesn't permit it.
Culture is not rigid like religion. Culture is meant to change and adapt to changes happening around you. Culture is made by u and me and every single person living in that area.
Parent's don't control ur life. They bought u in this world for their own reasons. They didn't consult u oh do u want to be born. Yes look after them, respect them, but that doesn't mean u cater to their every demand. Did they do it when u didn't have the money and they used to earn. So how can u cater to their demands when u still have to think about urself, ur wife and kids. U said u didn't want to take dowry but still u gave in to ur parents. Why??? They don't want to get rid of this social evil, though u want to. Is it right for u to give in to their useless demands. Many a times kids can become teachers to their parents. God willing ur parents are there to see ur kids getting married. Will u give in to their demands of taking dowry or will u step in say as the parent of ur kids that "No" I am stopping this useless evil prevailing in the society.
U and ur wife together have started their own family separate from ur parents whether u live with them or away from them. Same way tomorrow ur kids will do it. Accept the reality and move with it.

I'm not going to delete this one, but I agree with the posters above.
CD is an immigration help forum and a platform for bringing the desi community together. TK, your posts are increasingly the Agony aunt questions and although there's nothing wrong with this once in a while, I really do think you're overdoing it. Secondly, don't equate your behavior to a specific culture (Tamil or other). Its not fair to members who belong to that community but don't agree with you whatsoever. And definately don't say stuff about other communities, I will not allow this.
In a nutshell, don't bring up "issues" that most people (whether Indian or not) can't relate to. This thread is a perfect example, most of us have gotten past this mentality and its not even an issue for us.
And to people who engage in such conversations, please let some common sense prevail. Please use discretion before replying and providing your feedback.

Are you there?
BL,

Sorry if i offended any one.
If possible, please lock this thread.
