I am flying to/from India on Emirates, and I am thinking of a 24 hour stopover in Dubai. Emirates website is also showing some packages for same.

Has any CDs done this stopover? What is there to see and do in Dubai in 24 hours? How much would it cost? Any tips/pointers would be helpful.

Hi Meghal ,

Good decision .. Dubai should be pleasant at this time of the year ... We always do a stop over @ Dubai when going to India.

24 hours may be less for Dubai ...I would suggest 3 days or so ... You can do a stop over at no extra cost ..You can get a visa on arrival at minimal price ... I think the validity is 01 month.

I would recommend Gateway or Admiral Hotel in Dubai which are bang in Meena Bazaar or a literal 5 minute walk away from the core ... Breakfast is sumptuous .

Cabs are cheap & well regulated ... Never hesitate to hop in one. Drivers would be from Indian sub continent.

In terms of attractions if I had to recommend ... I would suggest hiring a cabbie to take you on a tour of Dubai .. from Jumeirah to Palm Islands (Atlantis) on the one end to back via Jumeirah to Shaikh Zayyed Road and all ... This I assume would be an excellent way of seeing Dubai.

Attractions

a. Dubai Mall & Musical Fountains ( evenings 7 pm onwards)
b. Jumeirah Beach ( Burj al Arab side)
c. Walk from Jumeirah Beach to Madinat Jumierah pass Burj Al Arab and some other hotels as well
d. Madinat Jumeirah ... open air market best enjoyed in evenings /night.
c. Deira Gold Souq
d. Meena Bazaar
e. Dune Bashing & dinner in desert with belly dancing (1/2 day tour)

Others can add.

Hi Fido

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I don't think I will be able spare more than 24 hours, as I will need to recuperate before I go back to work.

I was talking with a colleague of mine and she suggested that I take a big bus tour that will give me an overview of the city.

Emirates has also some deals for stopover for hotels.

I would not do that for 2 reasons ....

1. The days may be warmer and sometimes dusty for comfort to be on the upper deck.

2. The traffic can make the loop longer.

I have never done that but then I was aware with Dubai .. not sure if I can give a straight answer from a new comer's point of view .....

I think cabs are good for touring the city and you can stop at any place you wish to and then take another cab.....

For 24 hours with a jet lag ...hmmm .. do a cab tour for 2 hours , stop by Jumeirah Beach , take a dip ... walk to Madinat Jumeirah , photo shoot @ Burj Al Arab ..... stroll into Madinat Jumierah ..... take a cab to Dubai mall .... stroll in Dubai city mall , photo shoot with Burj Al Khalifa and if evening permits , watch the musical fountain .... If time permits .... visit gold souq Deira .. for a couple of hours ...

Good part is .. things are open till late ... 10 - 11 pm or so ... Good Luck ... Do not hesitate in hiring a cab anywhere ...

Meghal,

I never went out and venture Dubai, but in general it should be safe. However coming from western world, I don't seem to have any desire to venture anything there. The same concrete city...
