That's correct GG. Same here - never intended to go and visit any American city for that purpose alone. They all look the same and have almost the same attraction.

I love visiting Dubai for umpteen reasons , primarily because of nostalgia but majorly because it is such a good combination of the East & the West , one wonders if it can get any better ...

You get the best of technology , excellent infrastructure , malls and above all an abundance of Indians & Indian restaurants every where ........

It is quite free , as much as one can wear bikinis on Jumeirah Beach ..

Very good for shopping esp jewelry or Gold for the quality and purity ...

We enjoy it thoroughly esp coz in winter months , the weather s very pleasant there ...

For sure it is conservative as compared to Toronto but the most free city in the ME and by any standard a world class city !!!

( And it is very very very safe even @ 2 am in the night )

I am really surprised to see that GG and febpreet are of the opinion that Dubai is very similar to any other American city with similar attractions............obviously they have not seen Dubai, otherwise they would not say so. Guess they do not know how difficult/expensive it is to build and maintain a ski resort in a desert, or to conceptualize and build a place like the palm, or the wonderful aquarium, or grow and maintain green grass and beautiful flower garden in a desert full of sand storms, the lavishness of the concrete, the cleanliness of the roads and so on and so forth!!

Not to mention the flooring and everything at the Malls there esp Dubai Mall :) ... jaw dropping ...

And it is so inexpensive , the food and the transportation .

Dubai is the show case of the Gulf and worth a visit !!

Meghal ~ In case you are traveling alone , the hop on hop off bus might be both more suitable & economical.

Though I have never visited Dubai, I am sure that Dubai is on a class of its own.
Yes. The same concrete and glass buildings are there but onething that differentiates it from the west is the richness. You canot see the richness of the building elsewhere except in Dubai.

The food is great. If you are a non veg eater like me, you will find it great.

Just go to the DUbai mall. A mall has never ever been built like this. It is not like your typical Sherway Gardens that you have been used to with its crappy food court. This is a 1000 times more.

There are more exotic and different places to visit in Dubai. The plight of seeing many of our workers on labour jobs / as store clerks will give you a sort of entitlement in Dubai.

Also, you can never see Gold ornaments in such a quantity as in Dubai.

In short, if you are a highly paid professional in Canada, it is worth a visit for 3 days in Dubai. You will know how money can be spent in Dubai.
