My family bought a LG 55" LED smart TV in June last year for 75K. Whoever gave you 64" for $200 must have an older model (none of the latest 4K 64" TVs are less than $2000) - or DLP model which is obsolete.

Shipping by sea cargo : the freight is cheap, the handling is expensive if the cargo value is low. For eg. you can ship 1 skid for $125.00, but the cargo handling, export paper work and dock charge will add up to $250.00 minimum and additional costs at destination.

Reminds me of the old addage - 4 anna murgi, 12 anna masala. Good luck.

Hiren

Mrpandya,
Great! that you could revive a dead TV. And am sure, you must've got its worth using / enjoying till date.
Exporting your TV which is now almost 4 years old and looking at how any electronics are warranted its lifespan, you really have to weigh in the cost and its benefits after having it imported to India, without damages.

Do share your experience at the end, after your move, for the benefit of all.

All the best!

Tk has give you a good shipper to get things going if you want to take the Sea Route. They all take good care of the shipment, but on occasions ships do encounter very bad weather and you might experience delays and damage too. So, insure it to the hilt.

They will need an Original Invoice or a bill to consider the value of the TV. So prepare one from any website and print out two copies for your use. It should show the real value. Currently, they are charging 36% of the TV's original value, regardless what you actually paid for it. They might waive the first Rs.35,000 off as an allowance.

If you want it there when you land in India and you have all the help in receiving you and the TV and taking it to your home is NO problem at the Indian end, then, you can book it through an airline that will help you ship it as a Huge item at a cost. You will still need an insurance policy to cover the same. Make sure that the TV is NOT Broken with in the package before you pay the duty on it. Once you pay it, you can never reclaim it back.

Air India calls it Linear measurements and want $600 for shipping it. Call them and ask.
It will be the same if you take it through the shipping route. AI will only go upto 46". Ask them for the new freight details too.

BA seems to be the best. They call it the GIRTH (One Length + One Width + one Depth in inches which is called girth) is what they will ask you. Not knowing what it is, you will do better having it at your finger tips. Insure it to the hilt also include the shipping costs, insurance costs, plus any handling that you might incur. Please keep all of the documents and also make an Invoice for the same through the website. Print it and keep the copies or the links to go with it. (It will be good to have it on the web in your mail link.

BUT... they all want you to buy your ticket through them. That is for you to decide. BA will do it under $300. They also have handling charges for bulky packages. Please ask them first, before you book the tickets.

If it is Toronto-Delhi, then, it will be a NON stop flight and I am sure you will not only enjoy the trip, your TV will be there with you at the same time as you land there in one piece.

Good Luck.

A simple advice:

Give or take a few bucks, you can find everything in India for household use, that you find here. Your decision to return to India is far more serious than all these electronic trash you are worried about. If anything, if you are a infotech person, just buy for yourself a robust laptop with good specs. You can sell all the rest thru kijiji or just donate at the salvation army or such goodwill stores. I keep thinking about going to India to retire; my first trip there two years ago did not convince of any merits. So I am heading there this summer to re-assess or just hang around and partake in some spicy Indian cooking. Look at your return from a different perspective than worrying about pot 'n pans and electronics

Chheda has given the basic costs of shipping plus the costs of weight/volumes associated with it. I provided the additional risks and the insurance feature needed to complete such a mode of transportation.

The OP has a few more items beside the TV and he needs to avail the shipping services to get them to the Indian end. He can evaluate the additional costs for the TV, if he wants to take the slow boat to India,

Otherwise, as I always point out, if you can fold the item and put it into your wallet, it will save you tons of money. So get rid of it and look up for a sale or a similar item on the market. Since he is a technically oriented person, he surely knows the best of what is there and what is going to appear tomorrow.

I will go along with you. But sentiments rule and it is difficult to discard the daily coffee mug that you are used to, first thing in the morning.

FH.
