I am not an accoutant, but I see many people immigrated here from accouting background and struggling here to get a job.
Unlike engineering the practice of accounting is differene in each part of the world and Canada is not an exception.
When you hear words like Accounts Payble and Accounts Receivable you get confused with the words you were using at back home.
Apart from words I don't think on the basic concept stand point there are any differences.
If you look at accounting book here and just study what each word means you can easly tell youself entry level accountant here.
At least I think!!

Rashmi:
Unlike you, I am an accountant, infact a Chartered Accountant from India and a CGA from Canada. So I think I can answer your question.
The answer to your question can be divided into three segments:
1. Many accountants really do not know accounting. They may have studied the subjects in school and college but when it comes to practical application, they are unable to do so.Hence they do not get jobs.
2. Many accountants who are qualified professionally and have experience do not know how to market themselves properly. This includes speaking and answering proper English, communication, and polished ways of answering about themselves and their work at interviews. This category of people also do not get jobs.
3. Many accountants who are qualified professionally and have experience do not know the latest IT and computing techniques necessary to do their work. Thus, though they are polished and have the qualifications, for lack of proper IT training and usage(as projected by themselves during interviews) they do not get jobs.
Rashmi,I hope this answers your questions.Do not worry about the people described above.Plenty of jobs are available for all of us, myself included. I refer to the labour and factory jobs.We can all survive somehow!

well Sathish........I have just observed your posts and you do not miss to point out "labour and factory jobs"!!!! funny,eh!!
I have seen non IT engineers and other professionals going thru this rough phase for couple of years. You were very right when you pointed out some desi CAs ending up doing labour jobs.
I know a CA who had rich experience of SAP/R3 while working for ABB(Swedish) India. He had no problems getting contract positions for SAP related work here. He also got directly into Level 4 CGA alongwith some exemptions. He got full-time perm job at the same place where he was on contract. Acctg. agencies who helped him so far are still calling him to see if he is looking for a change.
To me, it means....
Indian CA, worked in multinational high tech environment, good communication skills, good personality, good acctg. and IT skills............willing to relocate...........SHOULD NOT HAVE PROBLEMS FINDING A JOB IN ACCTG. FIELD in GTA.
