Incidentally I tried getting a free credit scrore through Equifax in North York.

What Equifax gave me for free was an abstract . I had to pay $12/- for the score.... the first time I got a score here myself ....

Not to divert the thread , how does a score > 700 sound .... good , bad , ugly ??

Here is the link to understand score:

http://www.fcac-acfc.gc.ca/Eng/resources/publications/creditLoans/Pages/Understa-Comprend-1.aspx

NOTE: most of the time score gives good idea about persons strength..

but its not only the score there are few other things on your past history which tells lot about you.

For example:

someone can have best score 750+ , but may have lot of liabilities which effects capacity to borrow.

someone can have best score but that doesn't mean he has enough capacity to borrow

as long has you have minimum two credit and paying them regular your score will build up. ( credit can be , utility bill, credit card or various loans)

same goes for bad score, someone may have one or two late payment which will affect the score but person might have enough equity or cash flow to borrow.

I strongly believe that nothing is free... this company might be interested to get your personal information ( name, id, email) , so they can sell it to B2B company and make money out of it. To get the score you will have no choice but to put all real information - so who would not mind getting this data ???

or they might use for them selves, you guys may start getting cold call/email in few days about the offers...

All you guys who is getting the score free from this website, check again your score after 21 days,,, I m sure there will be soft inquiry on your credit report.

many cases soft inquiry is not bad but if you have couple soft inquiry then that raised the questions to creditor/lender

I only believe in Equifax for my Report - I do not mind paying them but at least I know my information is secure and not gone to public.
