Hi Paronti....when did you last visit India....all this stuff is available in India and cheaper too. They will just throw away all the Chinese garbage you are going to give them from the dollar shops. Chinese stuff is really looked down upon there. They even look for nike " made in mexico" which they considered better than "nike made in China"!! For some reason.

Dear Paronti,

I completely agree with J Sethi (NN01). It looks like a lot of board members have not been to India recently..Even the american dollar stores have opened their branches in India where chinese stuff is available at Rs 99.

I would suggest that you take perfumes / Maple syrup / cuban cigars which are either not available or are quite expensive in India. Chocolates are another good option like the Nestle gift packs available at Zellers..

Most of us plan our travels and the packs the goods we carry in them. What ever is in the form of liquids, need to be packed in the suitcases and prior to check in. The items that contain large quantities of liquids should be placed in these, if they are special items. Please make sure that they are in bubble packs or corrugated cardboard containers. There are restrictions to carrying larger quantities.

Normally most of the long distance flights have an intermediate stop, either for a change of plane or a carrier, at another location. That normally involves a second check in. During the check in of the hand held carry on baggage, there is a security check. During the check, they do not permit you to carry more than 3 ounces of fluids (THREE). If you carry anything from home, you will have to jettison the liquids, which means throw away at the airport. Hence do not purchase or carry any liquids that exceed the volumes that they normally permit. Also do not purchase these perfumes and alcohols etc., at the Duty Free Shops at the airports, unless they are permitted to be carried into the plane, after the security check. Please make sure that the shop is after the check point and not before. Also do not buy it on board and carry it on person on the first leg of the flight. I hate to see you loose your valuable purchase and let it go into the garbage bin.

There are shopping catalogs provided by the airlines on board and they are placed in front of your seat along with the cards marked emergency procedures. They normally provide you with the stuff that they carry on board for your purchase On Board Duty Free Shop and with the prices. Some airlines may be able to provide you with the list and their posted prices. Please bear in mind that they might have all of the selections on all of the flights too. This is just for your information. So, be guided by it.

Hope this helps a little.

Freddie.
