Hi Jsethi/Kap,
Thanks for understanding my point!

I think the problem with most of us is that we are just like 'Trishanku', neither we can forget our motherland fully nor we can accept 'Phoren country' fully. Hamari halat us daal ke daane ki tarah rahti hai jiska (chakki ke do paaton mein pisne ke baad) chhilka to utar jaata hai lekin poori tarah se pista bhi nahin hai.

BTW I am not working at Bay street. that address just came to my mind as Bay Street is supposed to be the financial heart of Canada.

Wah bhai kap sahab , aapka jawab nahi. Yes there are few guys who are always against (-)s. The known guys who do comparison has forgot that in India female infanticide is because of extreme poverty . But here the death was because of extreme negligiance and partying culture. The comparison has to be logical guys!! don't just blindly compare anything with India.

Above Quote by dhokla-

Because of poverty one should excuse female infanticide- you have gotta be kiddin' pal!
The poor adults should just refrain from getting laid.Knowing full well that if a female is born they are gonna lay her waste they should just plain forget about their balling culture.
In the case of Canada, you say it was negligence- mebbe it was contrived negligence- but in India it is pure outright murder! And that too of an infant!
Anyway the debate is endless, in neither case is the death justified.

Mother danced as the child died
YOU MIGHT 'NOT' BE DESI IF YOU LIKE THE FOLLOWING STORY AND DO NOT FEEL LIKE DOING A 'NAKED JOOTA PARADE IN A CHOWK' FOR SUCH PEOPLE AND SUCH SOCIETY.
BTW, Welcome to Canada, the land of opportunities for making your kids' future (and did any one say culture too???) bright and prosperous.

Dhokla- you're damn straight when you day the topic is "mother danced as the child died"

However what follows, as I read it is what has prompted all the comparisons with India. I detect a note of sarcasm in what follows after BTW, Welcome to Canada....., and I feel everybody read that note as well
The whole discussion was prompted by what follows the topic not the topic itself.
And the dude has the gall to suggest that if we flash on the story , we may not be "desi". Does he think anybody of any race, creed, or color would dig it? The fact that it was so horrendous is why it hit Toronto Star headlines and sanjeev wants to suggest that somebody actually would like the story...holy mama! Maybe he did.
Anyway, chuck it, that person deserves no human mercy for her negligence nor do those who commit female infanticide, nor any other kind of murder.
Excelsior, amigo!

You have mentioned right thing, I also argued with BL but BL has not been agreed.

I hope you have seen on TV yesterday, the debate between Bush and Kerry, No of them spoke any bad word about their country America and see on this board, our some desi are ready to speaks only bad things for India (Actually each and every desi knows bad things of India, nothing new).

Kap,

You obviously don't but a lot of us do feel that Canada is our country now. People who want to continue living with their inferiority complexes can continue to believe that this country belongs to Goras. I don't. I think it belongs to every Canadian. And I'm sure Canadian to you automatically mean Gora. Not to me.

And I know that to tunnel-vision, liking Canada automatically means hatred for India. Not everyone has tunnel-vision though. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that our fondness for Canada hasn't changed our love for India one bit. Rather, I personally drew a lot closer to India emotionally once I moved out.

You also seem to be saying that since your two GORA heroes (Shrub and Kerry) only say good things about their country, how can desis do anything different? Well, goras may be your heroes, not mine. I could not care less what they say or do, I actually have brain of my own.

But anyways, you missed my point before and I suspect more of the same.

Very well said, my fondness for everything indian grew manyfold soon after i moved out of India. And this fondness only continues to grow with time.

In the same breath, I also feel that Canada is our new Country.
both these emotions are mutually complimentary and not contradictory.

Desi's are just a source of cheap labour for Canada. Even the few who do make it, do so against all odds. We are still considered the "funny" brown folks, looking to make that quick dollar, and always compared to that Indian guy on the Simpsons. The biggest problem in Ontario is that the racism is underground because no one dares to say anything to your face, or explain why they dislike your heritage. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of my heritage, but I have networked with enough of the "elite" Canadians to know where the glass ceiling is. When Anglos say things like "I would never live in Brampton because it is a ghetto", what exactly are they referring to? The large number of Desi's, and this is considered undesirable, even by some Desi's.

Orientals/Asians/Chinese on the other hand are gaining far more widespread acceptance (Adrienne Clarkson). One theory is that this is so because there is a much higher rate of Chinese-Anglo inter-marriage going on.

And above all of us, including the Anglo-Canadians, is the French Canadian, the Francophone who is the star of the nation, always employable just because of his/her French language fluency.

Ever wonder what percentage of top bureacrats are Francophone? It is very high, even in occupations where Desi's are present in high numbers.
