I have relished sattoo in its two forms.
One is iced drink of roasted barley powder mixed with gur. Nothing can be more refreshing.
The second is a mixture of roasted barley powder, gur nuggets and ghee. Taken with a cup of full milk forms a perfect breakfast.
In addition to Bihar, UP and Rajasthan the sattoo WAS very popular in Haryana and Punjab. In Tamilnadu, the villagers prepare something similar but based on ragi.

I have seen Sattu in mostly Parathas and Puris (Kachouris).. Its yummy and also helps in keeping the stomach clean..
Despite all its goodness its not that popular, except for outside India. I have seen plain Sattu in many Indian grocery stores.. But did not find any flavoured one. You can always add the flavours yourself.. some salt.. pepper and lemon juice should be fine..
Sattu is still served in Bihar in all political Rallies ..
Cheers for Sattu

Last month I got a packet from India - it had kaju ki barfi and chane ka sattoo. And can you guys imagine where it was from? In a Haldiram box, nicely packed!!! Though I still have to ask my sis in law whether she bought the packet directly from Haldiram (Delhi) or she sent some homemade one.
So if Haldiram has done - we might soon get it here too just if tell the indian grocery stores that we are interested in it!

By Sattoo ka parantha, are you referring to what is known in Gujarat and Maharashtra as Puran Poli?
