I decided to take the questions as they are in one of the posts and thought to share my expieriences since coming to canada.
I came with exactly 4000 CDN, (took a handloan of rest 6000).
To start off I owe everything i have to canada. The country has been very kind to me.
I had once read that when you leave your house (not that it is not true in one's own house) that you should be like sugar in milk which adds taste to the place you stay without the milk over flowing out of the container. I kept that as my driving principle and have not thrown a single piece of garbage ever at any place other then the garbage bin, or tried to take a short cut to go past others in line, (I am not saying others do... what I am saying here is what i do\\\\\\\\did...).
I have never expirienced any discrimmination nor bias since landing in canada.
1. When did you came to Canada?
4 years ago in Aug 2000 when the IT bubble burst.
2. What you do right now?
I do software engg (I am a mechanical engg by profession). I have gradually moved up the chain. (And by that I mean with salary, since any ways the job hierarchy is very flat in canada.)
3. Was your first job in your field or do you ever needed to do labor job?
Actually i did not get a labour job. I tried to but was unsuccesful. I wanted to do a labour job when nothing was coming thru in the first 2 months of landing and wanted to move out from a relatives place which i did in exactly 20 days of landing.
4. How did you get your first job?
Did not receive any reply for any resume i sent to any company. Posted my resume on Workopolis and Monster, waited patiently, the only call I got from a recruiter was successful.
5. Are you satisfied with your job?
Yes.
6. Do you see a good future in Canada?
I think canada is and will be a good place. Also we should strive to make it happen.
7. How to do rate Canada?
w.r.t what, for me canada is every thing, Canada gave me every thing, including self confidence. Each and every piece of what I own is earned in canada.
8. How do you find Canada for Kids?
excellent. The schooling is good. They bus children if the distance is more then 2 kms. I remember I took a public transport bus and then walked 2 kms to school.
9. What is it you don't you like about Canada or What is it you would like to see more of in Canada?
I see every thing any thing any body can possibly dream for available here, nature, resources, etc etc....
10. What is your advice for others in terms of settling in Canada?
Be positive.. Look for what is the need of the market in terms of job oppertunities and then mold yourself into it. work hard as hard work is rewarded.
BTW: I got my first camera, car, van ....... right here in canada.
Next goal is to buy a house when the housing bubble bursts......

....
Very precise answers rp_0999.
One thing is not clear - how long you waited for the first job?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A Proud Indian Canadian
Exactly 2 months and 2 days. I got the first job on 20 Oct 2000 and joined on 1 Nov 2000 ,
One more thing to mention is I was re embursed when I moved out of Toronto (for the move) and paid 30% more to come back to toronto.
So it may be a good idea to move away from toronto for a great job and come back with a jump.
Just my 2 cents.
