Hi All,
All the senior desis, I mean all those of our desi members who have arrived in Canada at least 5 years before and more, can share their views on small business prospects, it could be in any field basically it should be operative by maximum of 2 persons and with low initial investment of say 10000 CADS
Any information out of their experience or their observations or by virtue of their involvement in any such venture

With a low capital base of 10k and low manpower base of 2, I think the businesses one can enter into are mostly service oriented. They could be like:
a) book writing
b) tax filing
c) transportation of household goods
d) handyman jobs
e) selling of financial products
f) amway
g) servicing and repair of machines in offices
f) web-site development and selling
etc. etc.

Have you heard about Mac's. It is a store franchisee. They give you a minimum salary of about $7000 a month to manage the show, you will be the manager and the owner. Initially they ask for $10,000 security, cost of inventory is theirs, you do not need to stock anything on your own. Over and above they also give you some percentage in the profit. It could be minimum 18 hours store job which I believe 2 persons can easily handle. The link to their website is:

All the figures mentioned above may be wrong or changed as I am not so sure about them. I was told about this opportunity by someone few weeks ago. To get the exact information, I would encourage you to talk to them and whatever information you get, post it here on CD. It could be very very helpful for others too.
Also, just came in my mind, if we at CD make up some plans and join together, we may encash the opportunity and create jobs and business for each other. We may incorporate a company or the 'Co-operative' basis and spread our wings in all across GTA.

We can start on similar guidelines of Dollar store. Business are managed by chinese with china manufactured goods. A friend of mine works for a courier company. He picks up goods from a Chinese whole-saler and delivers to Dollar stores. Basicaly the whole-saler is Chinese and gets goods from China. We can work out something from India which can spread in GTA and beyond that.

Try overtaking child's imagination
as far as dollar stores are concerned there are a few distributors in the Concord,ON who supply to many of the stores in US and Canada. I used to work for one of them. It may help you to stock some items from these places incase you do not meet the import minumums when you start out.
