1) It is good if your jewelry is evaluated from some reputed known Gemology Lab but it not neccessary as sellers on ebay can't cheat their buyers by claiming wrong things about there products as they always get feedback from customers and people buy from only those who have good positive feedback. To start with on ebay for selling it is advisable to sell first low cost products so that buyers can buy from new sellers keeping in mind that they are not risking much amount on new sellers and can look for the quality and service part of the seller. If they get good product and service, buyers would start leaving positive feedabck for the seller which is very important for future growth of the seller.

2) Carat wt. can be estimated in settings also by gemologist for diamonds and for colored stones.e.g.

All are usable format acccording to your strategy to sell your products. I use them all for my selling on ebay and experiment them differently. Ebay is a huge market with lot of potential for our products only thing is that we have to explore it sincerely.
