How is a non-French speaking person expected to drive in Montreal?
All the signs are in French and I have no clue what they mean.

They could have at least translate the major street names to English.
When *they* come to the English speaking parts of the country, they expect everything to be in dual languages, so why can't they do the same?

It must be said though, that the people are very helpful, and very patient with those who don't know French.
They do their best to give you directions, but it would help if you knew how to pronounce the damn street names :(

The street names are not that hard to pronounce.. and you can always practise a few street names before going..

I have driven to Montreal twice last summer.. and also went to Quebec City (More french than Montreal) .. and needless to mention I donno ABC of French.. still managed to have a great time there.. People are really friendly and they will always help you with directions if you are lost.

Have a nice time..

Propernames are propernames right? Decarie blvd would be 'boulevard Decarie" on the sign.
I know what you are talking about though...throws you off a bit the first cpl of days.
That and the potholes :)

And the unsalted sidewalks....I was skidding all over the place.
I noticed a lot of people walking on the snow on the edges of the sidewalk - so it is not just me :o

Thats by design :D . Its a popular alternative/extention to public transit for those who want to keep fit. Ofcourse there is always the occassion when one ends up using body parts other than their feet in this endeavor. Hope you did not have to.

Ohhhh don't even get me started about the potholes :D. You guys must need special shocks in your cars there.

Other than that though (and some confusing road signs), I have thoroughly enjoyed every trip to Montreal.

Are you there?
