Guys, my car insurance is up for renewal.
Couple of quick questions :

1) Does anyone have a list of insurance companies & their contact numbers in GTA...? That way i wont have to build one...:D Call me lazzzy...but i will also review and refine it ;)

2) Also, do we need to go thru a broker in this province? Or, Can we go talk directly to the insurance company... Looks like Wawanesa operates only thru brokers in this province...and u can talk directly with The Personal.

3) What are the advantage of going thru a broker? Any brokerage fees?

4) I know this is a bit generic question, but on an average, how much time should i keep to find and finalize an insurance, if u can access them directly... (In quebec, i could do it in 2/3 days ;) )

5) Lastly, what documentation do i need in hand?
- Drivers abstract from Quebec and Ontario
- Experience letter from my previous insurance company
???

Thanks :p bison

Can't answer all your questions, but here goes -

A broker can shop several insurance companies at the same time and give you the best quote.
If you contact each insurer, they will only give your their quote.
There will be lots of companies that you are not awar or or cannot contact directly.
A broker can do a much wider search on your behalf.

I did my insurance directly and did not take more than a few minutes at the office of the agent.
They printed temporary cards, and the real cards came in the mail later.
But the coverage is effective from the day you want.

I don't think anything other than your driving license number is needed.
You may need the driving abstract from the other province - I don't know amd someone who moved provinces should be able to tell you.
Other than that, usually the insurance companies get all the required data themselves, such as checking your driving record, etc.

So your insurance went up?
Do you know why?
I have heard that most insurance companies have reduced rates this year.

Went up? Yep... Moved from Quebec to Ontario...

In quebec, i was paying 1100
In ontario, Same company adjusted it to 1600 to cover me till end of year
They couldnt renew it and i had to find a insurance company from ontario.

I think here, it depends on what rating they give you. Each company has its own rules to rate you.

With no claims/accidents in last 3 years, U can get a 6* rating...

I think for 6* rating you have to have 6 years of no accidents, claims or tickets.
For 3 years, you will get 3* rating.

I believe the best is called 8 star, which you get after 10 years.
