The Cynic
Migration from India to Canada is in thousands and thus seems inconsequential.
This year's engineering colleges intake in India was 5,47,000.
Total up all technical and other premium courses you can get the picture. Even if less than 1% think of applying to one country the figures would need crunching.
So even with increased waiting list it does not seem there is significantly increased interest. (However in India increasing globalisation of education can be clearly seen. More people want to go outside the country for education.)
Further a significant number of people are also going back after initial struggle or reality check. Anyone knows where those figures can be accessed? Actually a trend line of those returning would reflect, to some extent atleast, impact of lack of opportunity. I personally know only of two families who migrated to Canada and both have returned back.
It is a pity that after waiting so long, putting life on hold for years, incurring so much cost in terms of money, time and effort, professional and highly qualified people land in Canada and after that they are unable to find a way around initial blocks. It is evident that Canada is unable to take full advantage of precious human capital flowing in. Seems a big waste.
The immigration policy was designed to replace the Baby boomers who will be retiring soon. But in reality the baby boomer generation doe snot need to be replaced because now most the the manufacturing has moved to low cost countries.
When the baby boomer generation was young almost everything was manufactured in Canada and USA.
So hopefully the Canadian government knows what it is doing by inviting all these immigrants.
i know three ca who went to canada as immigrants came back. actually persons who stay more than 6 months usually stay there. reasons are different. some think what their relative and friends will say ,some feel what job they get back home . they think its one and same thing to search for jobs whether in india or canada.
another thing i noticed when one go alone chances of returning are more.reasons - less fear of relatives and neighbour taunts. also they miss their family back home. only few lucky ones get jobs in their related fields .one need local education to get the job. job scene is really not very encouraging.
