Hi

I have been offered a job with a company in canada, however, I have choice in the place to work...either it can be Markham, Toronto or a town called Kitchener outside Toronto. There would be no difference in my salary.

I've heard that Markham is expensive compared to Kitchener, however there is more Indians in the locality.

Can someone advise me which place would be better for a simple desi and his wife?

Thanks

Kitchener would be a better choice over Markham due to cost of housing. There are lots and lots of Indian Families in Kitchener and you would not feel home sick.

Thanks

Choose Kitchener hands down.
If there is no difference in the salary/benefits, this is a no-brainer choice.

I'd choose Markham. Used to live in Kitchener at one point and although its not a bad town, I found it kinda dead in regards to activity (especially from a desi angle). Maybe its me and I'm too much of a city-slicker, however GTA is a lot more lively. Albeit more expensive.

In Kitchener, you can save on apartment rentals and car insurance. Apartment rentals vary significantly depending on location. Rest of the expenses remains the same. Not much desi population compared to GTA.

IN my view, if you are looking for only saving money in the short term, Kitchener might be the right choice as many have suggested. However, if you thinking of 'making' money, a place like Markham will give you more opportunities in terms of Career/networking etc.

Yes Kitchener has a lot of Indians too - but nowhere compared to Markham. In Markham, you will not have to look for Indians - you will bump into them. Some of the libraries have tons and tons of Indian movies and literature too - which is all available free. Grocery shopping is more convenient and cheaper for Indian groceries (I live in Concord and can easily feel the difference for many products - and Concord is only 10kms from Markham!).

And above it all - Depends on your personal lifestyle. Do you like big city life or small town conveniences?
