I am planning to make a move towards the east end. I work in markham. Any suggestion where i should try to look in for property. I dont mind commuting for about half and hour (drive) for a decent price. I checked markham, Richmond hill its very expensive. Anyone has idea about Whitby, Pickering and Stoufville.

Pickering and Whitby are still considerably affordable in comparison to Markham and Richmond Hill. Don't know much about the Stoufville area though. Why not contact a good realtor in East side and ask him to locate properties in these areas in your price range and then you can decide. Better still get your self pre-qualified for the mortgage so you know till what price you can go in for and then look for properties. If you do not know a realtor and need help, PM me and I can recommed you who is familier with East End, Pickering and Whitby etc.

Recently, I have done a lot of search in differnet areas so if you could specify what you're lookking for I can tell you more about Markham and Richmond Hills area.
Where in Markham do you work? And what type of house are you looking for?
If you're a first time home buyer and looking for a good deal then look for the N10 Area on MLS. Its a great neighborhood, lot of Indian Stores, Hotels and Malls near by. Has easy access to TTC and York Buses. Lot of new houses and prices aren't that high. Depending on what you're looking for but you can get a decent detached starter house at 325K and Semis would be less than that. Haven't seen any Town houses or Condos in that area.
Pickring, Ajax will have slightly more commute and with the new Airport Plan (I guess by 2010), commute from Pickring (or even Stoufville) will be a problem.
There are lot of new development in Markham at 9th Line, Steels & Markham Road Area but personally, I would prefer to goto less than 5 years old house so its still under warrenty, almost new but everything is settled and generaly previous owners will have spent time and money on finishing basement, fencing, drive way, Central AC etc so you don't have to worry about it.
My advise would be specify what you need and those of us having some knowlege would be able to steer you in right direction...or contact any real estate agent...perhaps Rajeev Bhai or Amit Kalra can help you. I had seen Rajeev's site and he has few good Markham listings on his site.
