Is it possible to open an account in Toronto right from here in India ?
If I open an account there in Canada and show the a/c statement at the port of entry. Will it work ?
Thanks for responding.
I'm not sure whether you can open an account in Toronto. May be someone in Toronto who is aware of this will help you.
You will not have up to date account statement to show at the port of entry. I'm afraid it won't work. You'll have to show readily convertible funds.

No you can open an account in Toronto sitting in India. The best way to do is to go to either HSBC or Citibank. I opened my account sitting in Indonesia. They might ask you for a local address which you can give same as the one you plan to give when you land and you have to give for mailing of your PR card.
You can give your mailing address as that of India and carry your latest bank statement with you.
Once you open an account in HSBC, you can easily settle down in any city other than Toronto since HSBC has a wide network of branches all over the country. But yes, let me tell you, HSBC has higher charges than many local banks, and so you might like to shift your funds from HSBC to say TD or Scotia or Royal Bank once you are here in Canada.
