Hi every body,

My questions are below. If you are not sure of the answers, please do not respond.

1. I am a candian PR. I landed in Toronto, applied for PR cards/SIN and then came to USA. I am now in US on H1B visa. My friend in Toronto has my PR cards (mailed to his address). Now, how can I get these cards shipped to my USA address? Are there any security related or lega issues in mailing them to my US address? Can some one carry in person and give it to me? I am asking this question because I was told that the PR cards can not be mailed and also some body else can not carry my PR card with him. Can I give some kind of authorization (letter) asking him to mail or bring it in person? What is the best way for me to get my cards legally?

2. I am planning to live in Windsor and work in Detroit for some time. So, I want to commute. I read on this forum that it can be done and many people are doing it. Is there any body on this forum who is doing that right now so that I can talk to him/her to get a feel of day-to-day problems in doing it. My e-mail is

Thanks a lot in advance.
Vardi.

CD has seen a lot of posts like these. Do you really like to immigrate to Canada ? Then come to Canada , live in Windsor and work in Detroit( if you already have a job in Detroit). Or else if you just chose it to be a safe option ( like if you do not get a GC in US ) then be prepeared to face increasing difficulties as it will not be easy to sail on two boats.Rules are tightened on both sides of the border. Also not many desis who immigrate from US seem to know the mandatory requirement of filing the IT returns as a Canadian PR. Once you are a Canadian PR, you not only have a right to live in this Country but also some responsibilities. Among them is the declaration of your world income and payment of taxes. So if you are a Canadian PR you have to declare your US income in you canadian tax return and pay the difference in taxes.
Hope you got the picture....

Goldeneye,

Thanks a lot for the info. Infact, I got my PR very recently and I am planning to move to Detroit soon. Even if I do not move also, I will pay taxes. I do what ever is required as a PR.

But you did not answer my question. My PR cards are in Canada. How can I enter Canada without them. I think I am not supposed to take any visa for Canada as I am already a PR.

Hi,

If you don't have the PR card, you can enter Canada in a private vehicle with the copy of COPR.

Thanks a lot Raajen.

This is the kind of information I was looking for. I have a copy of COPR that is signed by CIC officer at the POE. The http://www.cic.gc.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK also has this information ( verified it after your msg).

Thanks a lot for giving me this clue.

You betta check before you uproot your life and move to Detroit dude!
As a general rule Detroit IT is hurtin.. and if you get into Auto sector then god save you.. coz with Katrina aftermath already raising gas prices beyond 3$ .. layoffs loom large on horizon.. guess who gets the first boot.. ppl on contract .. that's who.. so make sure you wannt move to Windsor and make sure your Detroit -Windsor plans are what you want..
