Thanks Faisal,

Appreciate your advice . If Paying Guest is available as an option what r the approx cost pm ? I plan 2 come initially as a PG and then settle down later after a job and when family is 2 join in .

In ur opinion is a condo better than a house wrt the snow shovelling and parking ? Correct me if I m wrong in thinking that the rentals wud b similar .

I do comprehend that new furniture wud b costly . Hence wondering abt the average garage sale prices ..........

Manasvi.

If you're coming here alone until your family gets here, then you will probably be renting out a basement apartment or living as a paying guest (like my next door neighbor has)...

But if your question meant in the long run as to what you should buy... a condo or house... then by all means go for the house. If you ever plan to sell it, you'll have a better return on investment. Plus condos are not so personal. You are living with a 1000 other people. If you have kids, you would probably want to have a backyard where they can play. Or make snowmen with them. Etc, etc, so on.

I believe your initial question about financial expenses has been answered by some of these fine people already so I won't get into that. :)

Thanks MadammeX,

In deed u ve correctly deciphered - I plan 2 come alone initially and then buy / rent a house . I also have a preference towards independent house (esp since they are affordable) but my concerns were :

1. How to get rid of snow shovelling &
2. Covered parking which is provided in most condo complexes.

Pray - tell me what wud b the average cost of a 2 BR condo and a 2BR house (with a basement) . I know u can always rent the basement and pay the mortgage portion.

Manasvi.

Snow shoveling is not that bad. If you really detest it, you can always pay the neighborhood kids who are more than willing to do it. In our neighborhood, there a bunch of kids who will come by at the start of the first snowfall to ask if they can shovel our snow. And usually they will charge $5. You can also have a service started (provided by the city), to get ur snow shoveled (Done by couples who are unable to do it for themselves due to some phsycial restrictions in most cases.)

Covered parking.... hmm... if you are living alone, that will be a difficult to find if renting out basement apartments. Covered parking doesn't come standard.
