Thats really some hard work .Thanks Peacock & others .

May I request you to fill in the blanks for 02 people (plus 1 child)

1. Rent (1bhk) $850/-
2. Utilities (gas heat & water) ???
3. Grocery $500
4. TTC for 2 ppl $200/-
5. Mobile (avg minimum charge ) ??
6. Land Line $ 30
7. Internet (50 hrs pm ) ??
8. Car Insurance (1995 Corolla) ?? $125/-

Utilities are usually included in apartment rent. Apartment rents are usually higher than 850$ specially in Toronto, in central locations.
Consider 50-60 $ per month for cellphone costs.
Internet, 12-20 $ per month unlimited.
Car insurance depends upon the history of the driver. For a new driver, keep the budget 200-250 $ pm for comprehensive insurance.

New Furniture can be pretty expensive, and dont forget the costs of transportation of the furniture. I think you should browse through some websites to have an idea of furniture costs.

Thanks Faisal,

Appreciate your advice . If Paying Guest is available as an option what r the approx cost pm ? I plan 2 come initially as a PG and then settle down later after a job and when family is 2 join in .

In ur opinion is a condo better than a house wrt the snow shovelling and parking ? Correct me if I m wrong in thinking that the rentals wud b similar .

I do comprehend that new furniture wud b costly . Hence wondering abt the average garage sale prices ..........

The rent you pay really varies according to where exactly you are living. I pay 1155 for a 1-bed apartment + there'll be 75 extra for covered car parking. Groceries and other day-to0day stuff costs about 800 per month. Travel for me and my wife costs around 200 per month (2 Metro Passes). No car right now - but looking for one, so once I get that expenses will again go up. Cell Phone, Cable TV and High Speed Internet - 150/month. We've also spent about 2000 bucks in buying a bedframe, boxspring, mattress combination, a 4-chair dining table set, a computer table/chair and kithcen utensils. Since we ran short of cash, we haven't bought a TV, TV stand, Sofa etc (using a friend's extra TV temporarily). We also eat out 10-12 times a month and that comes to 600-700 bucks extra. So for a family of 2, monthly expenses for regular living is about 3000 CAD per month without a car and probably about 4000 per month with car (the car means about 350-400 for insurance, 350-400 for loan installment, 200-250 for gas). So plan accordingly.

I do not have any experiences as a paying guest in Canada, but I knew some bachelors living in shared apartments for around 400-500 $ pm.

A condo is better than a house wrt snow shovelling and parking, but in condos you pay the management for these services. Rentals of houses and condos (apartments) are not similiar and sometimes differ by approx. 50 %.

Garage sale prices are way less for furniture, especially when someone is trying to get rid of his stuff. Try http://www.craiglist.com" rel="nofollow">LINK to have an idea of prices.
