The cash salary is low.

House allowance is good bywhich you can have a nice apartment/villa.

Indian community is there to mingle.

Be prepared to work under some stupid locals if it is a goverement organisation.

OVERALL, since the cash salary is not so good, it is not very attractive.

But if your salary is not good here then you can accept it.

I lived there for many years, and this would be my advice.

Note :

Only drop outs in USA and Europeons work there with very little qualifications. lol

NM : these days "drop outs" of india only come to Canada. i have been surprised at how many times i have to fill in the embarkation card of fellow passengers at the airport in India. Can you explain what you mean by drop outs as i may have not got ur point ?

tamilkuravan : i agree that immigration is a cash cow for the government

Graduates and post graduates educated in India come here to canada to work in ordinary jobs which will pay 10 to 12 $ an hour.

Technicians and plumbers from USA and Germany go to Gulf and work in top positions. Those who lived in Gulf know this.

In a way i agree that drop outs ( Those who can not compete locally ) only go out of their respective country and work elsewhere.

I am not sure if there are other reasons to move there, but your original post points only to numbers and hence I think 25k AED is less, even if it is TAX Free. Nothing is FREE - remember you and your family will have to live in that environment. Life Style is a lot different in ME compared to freedom that you find in Canada.

Oh Yes, I totally agree and after living in UAE for close to a decade & shifted recently from there, I'd most certainly agree with Maharaj! One more fact is that your cash component is certainly less considering your field of work & that they are offering you a position at the Director level. It should be close to or preferably above 10K USD PM. Also, to be considered is that it is a govt. job & they are supposedly good pay masters.

Pros of Living in AUH & working for UAE Govt.
1. TAX Free. All your expensive expenses (locals call it disguised tax) are paid for (furniture, kids schoolings, rental, etc.).
2. Cheap Cars & Fuel (if you love Cars then UAE is the place to be). Spoil yourself with the options that you'd get & its affordability & maintenance costs.
3. Close to India & feels as though you are in an Indian city but a clean one. (Most of the residents speak or understand Hindi or urdu). 2.5 hrs. to Mumbai.
4. Lots & lots of holidays. Esp. since you might be working for a govt. entity. Not to mention working 3-4 hrs in a day during the entire month of Ramzan.
5. Awesome winters. Pleasent like heaven.
6. Esp. for your case, Saving potential could be huge as there are not too many avenues to spend .
7. Free market. Run a biz., transact freely. Gold Gold Gold!! Pure Pure Pure!!.
8. Safe country. Women have tremendous respect. No worries if you leave your house unlocked. We did it a couple of times out of necessity.

Cons of staying in UAE is coming up in a seperate post. ;)

Cheers,
Un|tZ.

Really need to know the cons of UAE....I have been seriously thinking of making the move...but it is better to know the place than venturing into unchartered seas...

If you own a car, move to Khalifa City. Go to the next Mall, (Marina, Al Whada, AD Mall or Khaledia) and get you the "Abu Dhabi Week". It's a free paper laying out in the Malls and have all many apartments offers. Especially in Khalifa City.

Is AD expensive to live in? Well, this depends on your lifestyle. In case you are on a budget, you have to watch what you buy where. Abela's und Spinney's are the most expensive stores with all the imported goods follwed by LuLu Hypermarket and Carrefour. If you go to Coop, Fatima Supermarket and other smaller shops, you will save some money. Buy fruits and veggies in the market hall at Madinat Zayed. Their you even can bargin. Household items you get cheap at the Iranien souq. Other things you can buy cheap at Elektra street at all these small stores or at Emson's and One Dirham Stores
Cheap stores you also find in older malls like Madinat Zayed Shopping Center, Mina Mall, Hamdan Center and Hamed Center (Electronics in Hamed).

Internet flat rate is Dhs 249 monthly and phone calls from landline to landline within AD is free. Healthcare and medication is free.
