Hello every body,
We are permanent residents of Canada (PR). I am now working at Minneapolis, MN in USA. We (my family) plan to live in a Canadian city closest to the border while I am working in US. Does any one here know what is the closest canadian city where my family can live so that I can travel by car every week end to join them (like Detroit-Windsor) I believe Winnpeg is too far.
Thanks in advance.

the closet border in minnesotta is 3 hrs drive from duluth. it is 8 hrs drive fromminneapolis. The town is really small. or you can take a ferry from duluth to thundebay which is a nnice city. so I guess you will drive upto duluth which is 2 hrs from minneapolis. take the ferry across lake superior to thunderbay Ontario. that is the best option you have.
Sorry I just called thunderbay and they say they have no ferry service to minnesotta.
Thanks Janmeja for the quick response.
So, Thunder bay is the only option for me? Or is there any other town/city on the Candian side o fthe border which is about 3 hours drive from Minneapolis. Taking ferry from Duluth to Thundar Bay may not be the practical option even if it's available.
Thanks again for your advice.
Winnipeg is about 6 hours drive from Minneapolis, major highways with no traffic.
calgary : 1051 miles
edmonton : 1284
toronto :934
vancouver 1806
montreal 1262
international falls on minesotta border
grand rapids on lake superior canada border with minesota
if you are looking for border town to work in USA
I think Detroit-Windsor or Buffalo-Fort Erie are your best options..
I would go with Buffalo coz not many know it.. so there's not much hassle..
Detroit -Windsor is becoming more and more problematic by the day..
