Hi,
I am in Canada for past one year. Last year my parents in their 70's wanted to visit me here but their visa was refused . I am their only son and they are quite well off , documents in support were also submitted. What should I do now ? I dont have a steady job though.

You dont need to notarise your invition letter ( WHO TOLD YOU THIS??)
The main reasons for rejection is
1. No sufficient funds to take care of the.
2. Do not have a steady permanent employment
3. Your parents are above 70. you will not be able to pay their medical bills if they get sick
4. they may have medical condition that may risk their travel and potential expenses by canadian tax payers.

if they are well off. get them to take the following:

1. bank statment showing that they are comfportable
2. property papers
3. if the get medical insurance : this will cost quite a bit coz of their age but if you go online there are companies that do travel insuarance ( for the period they are in canada. ) i got on for my grandma last year. it cost $700 for 3 months. basically it will pay for any immediat attention they might need and get them back to India.
google search for "travel Insuarance"
4. my grandmothers brother had also sent a letter for her saying that he will take care of all expences for her in canada. so maybe you can send them a letter such as this. if you have another well todo reletive here might be able to do it too.
5. but most of all they should show that they have enough funds to pay for their visit here .
this all that we had done for my parents and grand mother
hope this is helpful.
and chandresh pls note that i am not misleading any one. this come from personal experience. i thought i better clarify before you jump on me again.
best

All you require for a temporary resident visa are

1. Original Employment letter from your company showing your position, annual income and status.

2.Notarized T4 slip ( current Income tax returns filed in canada)

3. Property papers ( If you own a house)

4.notarised copy of PR card

5. invitation letter ( Inviting your parents to come stay with you at your residence in........ for a period of......nad will take care of all boarding, lodging and all miscellaneous expeditures ( not notarized)

6. Original financial statement form the bank showing suffiecient funds ( minimum reqd ( 7-C$ 10.000)

That could be the problem. Does your supporting documents include your T4's ?

You mean getting travel insurance before visa approval ?
I know this is not a requirement. But even then, is this advisable to purchase insurance before getting visa approval ?

I agree with ad1760's list. My mother visited Canada last summer. Document list was exactly as provided by ad1760 (well, I additionally provided few recent paystubs. But employement letter with salary and position should be fine)

T4 slip / Tax assessment slip from CRA is mandatory. If you dont have this slip that means you havent paid your tax and thats whre your problem starts.

Do not waste your money on medical insurance until your visa is approved or affixed in your passport.
This is the step before you buy your ticket. You might be eleible for a senior citizens rate on the ticket ( onsome airlines only like Air india)

For your information, I used to be a private consultant on immigration/ temporary resident visa processing and review of documents submitted for the canadian cosulate in dehli. If I did not see a T4 slip first and the bank statement and employment letter and status (PR/citizenship card copies notarized)I would not waste my time and reject you straight away but still keeep your application fees. take my advice,
get your ducks in a row first.
It has nothing do to with the visa officer not liking your face or is in a bad mood.We absolutely have no time to look for a beautiful face. The trick is to be calm, not sweat and NOT LIE...... we can deduce your intentions and the way you speak.
