Hi All,
I submitted application for my parents sponsorship in October 2008 and since then I haven't received any acknowledgment. i am going to school this month for 1 year starting tomorrow and my Wife is pregnant.
Now my questions are :
1. When can I expect to receive the acknowledgment for the sponsorship application of my parents?
2. What is social assistance? You are not eligible to sponsor someone if you have received any social assistance. Is Employment Insurance a social assistance?
3. If I go on Employment Insurance (EI) is that going to effect the sponsorship application of my parents?
4 I wanted my mother to visit us now since my wife is pregnant. My wife is working and i am going to school. Is this situation going to effect the visit visa process for my mother since we have to send a letter of employment and bank statements to them as documents requirement to apply for the visit visa.
Please advice.
Thanks.

You should have received acknowled'gment by now. Contact the CIC Call center and ask for a clarification.

Social assistance are welfare payments. EI is not classified as social assistance.
3. If I go on Employment Insurance (EI) is that going to effect the sponsorship application of my parents?
Since, you have already put in your application, I am assuming that you met the income criteria. Your application will not be touched by CIC for alteast 24 months. So technically, you could go on EI. However, if your household income falls below the income cut-off criteria at the time your appplication is scrutinized (around Dec 2010) AND CIC asks you to prove your income again, then that might have an effect on your application. You will have to prove that your last 12 months of household income was above the cut-off criteria, so make sure that your total income for 2010 meets the criteria.

This will depend on your luck. There is no harm in trying, but chances do not appear to be good since both of you will not be working when your mother is on visit in Canada.
