Side note :
Rajan,
Did you receive $1200 (one for each family member) or is there a clause saying that these cheques are only for those who have paid their taxes for the last 3 years or so in Alberta.
And also how do people who do double dipping (those who stay near the border of Sask and BC and files their taxes in both the provinces for benifits from both the provinces) detected?
Thanks
TK

Recd. $1600/- totally as we are a family of 4. The rebates were to be given to those who had filed 2004 tax returns & also settled in Alberta before Sept. 1, 2005. don't know about people staying on border.

Will help me in booking my tickets back to India.:D

Long live Alberta government & Ralph Klein.

Thanks & rgds.

We received ours too for $1600 (4 family members). AND we were just barely eligible - we established residence in AB on 1st Sep 05. To receive the cheque, you had to be a resident of AB as of 1 Sept. 05. We werent even sure they would have all our information (although we had sent a letter to CRA with our new address) and we thought we would have to call multiple times and submit documents (like rent agreements) to show that we were eligible. To our surprise the cheques were in our mailbox on the due date without requiring any calls.

On an amusing side note: I was walking in downtown Calgary in mid-late Sep. '05 just after the rebate distribution had been announced (the criteria for rebates was not announced then) and a TV reporter asked me for a Man-on-the-street opinion type of interview on what I thought about the rebates. I said I probably wouldnt be receiving the rebate as I had just moved to Calgary from Winnipeg. I dont know whether they showed my clip on TV that evening (the reporter said its upto the editor to decide which clips to show).

This 400 $ is peanuts . It will just be enough for paying my heating bills this winter.
