Hi CD's,
I was thinking of moving from Toronto, ON to some other province where I can sponsor any of my family. I was reading about the Alberta Family Nominee Program, it seems I can sponsor my family members if I live in Alberta for two years, just wanted to find out if other Provinces have something similar to that. What you guys say moving to Alberta is a wise decision or not, what about the jobs…and which city one should think of moving. Any thing else which would be helpful in making my decision. Appreciate your response.
Thanks
icecube,
Job wise, it all depends on the field that you are in. With Oil less than $ 40 a barrel, I doubt if you will get any kind of jobs in Alberta. Remember that during the boon time of around 2 years, a lot of people sold off everything and moved to Alberta. Alberta is the Dubai of the Middle east. Now that the price of crude it down, you will see great unemployment and an exodus of immigrants out of Alberta.
What is your reason of thinking of moving from Toronto to Alberta? Cannot you sponser your family from Ontario? Will the alberta nomination programmes allow you to sponser family members even if you are in a labour job / social assisatance program?
As far as cities are concerned, there are only a few in Alberta. Calgary is by far the best. Edmonton is second. Fort MacMurray is seeing an exodus of people out of its city limits. Also remember that the cold will be brutal there. Again the choice of the city depends on the field that you are in.
hope this helps.

Thanks TK...
I am currently doing an Accounting job, the reason I want to move is I want to sponsor my sisters - one is in India and other is in the US. I don't think there is a family stream sponsorship program in Ontario. Don't you think it would be easier for me to find a similar job either in Alberta or Saskatchewan(Regina).
All I want to do is try to bring my sisters here, and for this reason I am thinking of moving. If you know of any other means like work permit please do let me know. With the recent changes to federal immigration program it has become harder to apply in the Independent skilled worker category.
As you mentioned, cold is one factor that I am concerned about more than the job. I am pretty optimistic about finding a job but cold...ah.. you think it will really tough to handle it....
Suncor has stopped almost plant in Alberta, so lot of layoff in oil field and related sectors. Try to find out job first and then think to move.
Again even after 2 years of living in Alberta and sponser your sibling, it will take 3-4 years (total 5-6 yrs). Manitoba also have nominee program. If you live in Manitoba for a year, you can sponser your sibling and it will take less time than Alberta.
you may also wanna check Saskatoon
it is consider fastest in Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP)
