I am looking for good school for my son in Guelph. Are catholic school boards in Ontario better than public school boards? Are they still funded by public money. Please share your experience with me.
Thanks

Yes they are funded by public money (taxpayers). Some of our friends are sending their kids to catholic schools (note that chinese/lebanese send their kids too to these schools as they are "catholics";).

Educationwise there is not much of a difference between the school boards (public vs catholic). This is my observation only. So do your homework properly.

For admission in Catholic School Board, either of parents have to be catholic. or you need to pay that is equal to sending your children to private school.

People are opting for catholic school board for reason of tight control and religious belief such "no discussion on same sex marriages".

Many people who are not catholic such as people from Eastern Block (Russia, Ukarine etc), China and South East Asia region has turned catholic when they landed here. They reap all these benefits

But still the girls of Catholic Schools wear the shortest skirts! (or the skirts are long, but as soon as they are out of school, the pull/roll it up as I am informed! - my wife is a teacher by the way)

I believe some of school under catholic school boards have uniform code. I am not aware of measurement of skirts. I am not catholic but I know a Hindu family children go to one of the catholic school and they have to pay $.

To add to what Chandresh said.

As I have observed, catholic schools are just a hype. IMO, it's an another way of seggregation. Note that majority of the whites attend the catholic schools and more immigrant kids (non whites) attend public schools (at least in ottawa as I have observed). Few whites who are open minded send their kids to public schools. Most of the east european immigrant kids go to catholic schools (whites).

From 9 grade onwards, public school kids can attend catholic achools. By that time some of the children might have dropped out fo catholic schools. So to show the numbers, they let public school kids attend catholic schools.

Schooling based on religion is a mockery in a democracy.

Hi!
Just think what would have happened if only catholics were allowed to study in Catholic schools of india. Abdul kalam (president of india) finished his degree from a catholic college ( st. joseph's , Trichy, Tamil Nadu). What would have happened if Mother Theresa only catered to Catholic Destitutes.
Coming to think of it, i donot know why only Catholics are allowed to study in Catholics schools, and that too in a advanced country as Canada. And is the money for running these schools come from the Tax payers money or are these schools funded by the vatican and money donated to shurches/ charitable contributions.
TK

Addition : Looks like the Catholic schools are funded by public money. UN has declared this as unjustice but as usual can do nothing about it.
