Hi,
I am driving from Houston to Montreal on a temporary visa (study permit). I want to know if anyone has driven their car across the border on a temporary visa. Do I still need to "import" the car? What about insurance? Can I use my US insurance?
Also, I am getting rid of most of my stuff except books, utensils etc. I am thinking of eithe shipping parcels to myself using US postal service that charges $50 for a 66lbs box or rent a U-haul trailer. Has anyone used either of these methods? What have your experiences been like?
Thanks for all your responses. I leave here in a week and a half and would appreciate speedy responses.
I love this board. Everyoen is so supportive! Thanks in advance!
You don't have to import the car since you are NOT a resident of Canada. You can drive the US plated car temporarily in Canada. However, if you are planning to live in Canada extended period of time then you have to register the car in canada for which you have to import the car. This advise is for your guidance only
Please check with Canada customs regarding the import requirements for the car as I am not sure how the law applies to student visa holders.
