Hi CanadianDesis
I am moving to canada on a student's visa coming fall. The institute is located on St. George Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5S 3E6
I will be looking for an apartment on rent with, say, 3 bedrooms, to be shared with 2 fellow students. Willing to pay a rent between 400 – 500$ per head.
Can you please suggest me a suitable and affordable area. I am looking to stay in max 30 minutes traveling distance from the school.
Since I will be new comer, I don’t have much idea about names of places and locations.
Regards
Nipun
You should look for apartment near subway as it will help you to move around the city. Do you know that you may have to spend $ 100 a month on transportation. A subway pass will cost you that much. If you are walking distance from subway, you should reach University in 30 minutes.
Look in the area of dufferin, king etc. With your budget its tough to find something in locality unless u go for basement... Just FYI a two bedroom apartmet with a living room in close vicinity to Campus or in core downtown will cost no less than 1200 $
Good luck

Thanks Lana / Satya,
Yes i am aware that TTC pass is gonna cost me 100$.
Satya,
i am a little confused.. i am planning to share an apartment with 2 guys.. that means with 400 - 500 per head we have 1200-1500 for an apartment..
And as per your reply.. we can only manage a basement for that much.. are you talking about the downtown area.. near the univ?
well we are very much open to living in a 30 - 40 minutes traveling circle... i was hoping to find something reasonable enough for that price..
one thing if you can tell me.. are the rents usually negotiable.. i read a few posts on CD only and they say that one can easily negotiate for few utilities...
please do let me know
While looking for apartment, make sure that all utilities are included so you donot have to pay for water, electricity and heating. general rule of thumb, if you rent ( 3 of you) a whole house, you may have to pay for utilities yourself so you may have to spend additional 150 to 300 depending on use. If you rent an apartment generally utilities may be included. But before entering into rental contract check the contract for utilities.
Well i think you can manage around 1500 $ in say about 2 km radius of Univ. Have a look at viewit.ca
this site will give you some range and they also have snaps. As Lana suggested look for something which comes with utilities meaning hydro, heating, ac and water otherwise plan to pay atleast around 150 $ more. Since Canada is full of south asians you can expect to negotiate littlebit especially when you are going for a house who has asian landlord but thats not much I will say plus minus 50 bucks.
But don't expect in condos where you can only get movein incentives. I also wok at U of T st. george campus. If you have any further query please feel free to write me at
