I am not flewing thru USA for sure, as agent confirmed me I need a USA visa....But for Heathrow (london airport) visa is not required itseems.not sure what to do..but my question is I am not at all coming outside the airport , i will be within the airport only even then transit is required??

1. If i am travelling thru AIRINDIA from hydbad, i need to come thru UK(heathrow) or germany(frankfurt)... Frankfurt is not availble ...if i choose heathrow london airport..my halt at london would be 6hrs.I am not sure how other passengers are travelling from hydbad?

2. If i choose AIRINDIA and start from different city like Delhi instead of hydbad , then I need to stay only 2hrs at Heathrow london airport this might work..but the problem is i need to stay in delhi for one night becos i need to go one day ahead from hydbad...Flight starts from delhi at 7am and no connecting from hydbad to delhi is there on the same day..

Thanks
Gondesi

Heathrow is a big Airport with heavy security measures which are time consuming ..... I would avoid it if I can .... Have you tried flying via Vienna ( Austrian Airlines ) or KLM ( Amstredam ) ? Both are smaller Airports comfortable to move around ...

In case diet is a criteria , I am assuming Hindu Veg Meals is a standard diet request .

For your transit Visa ... browse 'DATV' ... it is gray and you may not need a Transit Visa for London ....

Whether you're at Heathrow for 2 hours or 6 hours makes no difference as far as the visa requirement is concerned.

Did you browse the link I gave you? As an Indian national and resident, you do need a transit visa, even though you may not be leaving the airport. But there's exceptions that will probably apply to you, go through link below

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa/visadatvnationals

Give the British consulate a call if you want to be absolutely sure. Or maybe someone else who has travelled the same route for their landing can comment on CD.

Cut/paste from the link above

Quote:

Passengers exempt from the DATV requirement

Holders of certain documents are, regardless of nationality, exempt from the requirement to hold a Direct Airside Transit Visa when transiting the UK.

A transit passenger is not required to hold a transit visa if he holds, or a person with whom he arrives in the United Kingdom holds on his behalf:

1.a valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from another country or territory to the country for which the visa is held;
2.a valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from the country for which the visa is held to another country or territory;
3.a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America to another country or territory, provided that the transit passenger does not seek to transit the United Kingdom on a date more than six months from the date on which they last entered Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America with a valid visa for entry to that country;
4.a valid USA I-551 Permanent Resident Card issued on or after 21st April 1998;
5.a valid Canadian Permanent Resident Card issued on or after 28th June 2002;

Are you there?

Hi BlueLobster

The link says I need to have transit visa no matter how many hrs i stay at airport,but that may not be true , a passenger who stays for less than 2hrs or 3hrs will not get time to apply for transit visa. I had flewed to USA several times and had never applied transit visa, but all the time my waiting time is less than 1.30 min hence no idea how it works for more than 2 hrs.By the way like paris , we may need to pass the security check again which would kill 1hr for family and 30min for a single. so no way of applying transit visa.

The link which you provided today clearly support my above words, there are exceptions like if we have valid US,canada,Australlia etc Visa.. no need to apply for transit visa..May be becos of this I had never applied transit while flewng via london to USA...Your link clearly helped em and given more confidence Lobster...Thanks for confirming with links..I come under exception rule as I have canada PR card.no need to apply for Transit..I can stay in airport for 6hrs , killing time would be a great challenge for me. Once again thanks for the answers.

I will confirm the july18th iternary which i blocked

Thanks BL for the link, it has all the answers.

Hi Gondesi,

Pasting a snapshot of the relevant section on the UK visa website. In short you don't require a transit visa .
------------ Start -------------
Passengers exempt from the DATV (Direct Airside Transit Visa) requirement

Holders of certain documents are, regardless of nationality, exempt from the requirement to hold a Direct Airside Transit Visa when transiting the UK.

A transit passenger is not required to hold a transit visa if he holds, or a person with whom he arrives in the United Kingdom holds on his behalf:

1.a valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from another country or territory to the country for which the visa is held;
2.a valid visa for entry to Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the United States of America and a valid airline ticket for travel via the United Kingdom as part of a journey from the country for which the visa is held to another country or territory;
---------- End -------------

I am travelling through Heathrow in August and MakeMyTrip agent has advised that transiting at Heathrow for more than 8 hours requires UK transit visa. None of the 8 hour criterea is mentioned in the above snapshot or anywhere in the UK Visa webpage. I guess you are safe to transit through Heathrow w/o transit visa. Please reread the webpage on the link that BL has shared. :)

Hi Fido

BlueLobster fwded a link which says "if we hold canada pr card or any valid visa to canada,Australli,USA... we can travel thru UK without transit or any UK visa...So I am clear and happy now with that.With no Hassle I can confirm the trip..

Regarding ur post , no i need to kill the time in London so its better if i have bigger airport and keep my time increment .killing 6hrs is not easy.Actually fido i dont have choose I need to choose 2 things
1. Killing whole night at delhi airport i.e 12 hrs or
2. 6hrs at london airport.

I feel london is better as it is day time .So journey issue is cleared.Now staying at canada is imp..

Now I need to look for guest house or paying guest for first one month. I resigned my job in India@ satyam computers and coming alone to find a job which is not easy. I checked in sulekha and found a paying guest for 400USD per month and few posts on candiandesi says paying guest may not be a gud idea instead serach for other alternations..so thinking what to do..pls throw some ideas or suggestions..

Thanks
Gondesi

Heathrow is bigger in terms of aircraft handling and no. of terminals. It is not that big for entertainment or timepass options. I think terminal 1/2/3 are bigger but others are just as normal as other airport.

So in my opinion just for killing time heathrow is not best choice.
