George Bush may have faltered in Iraq but his dramatic appearance for the Thanksgiving dinner in Baghdad was a class act. Will it help him politically in the long run is a moot point, but the Americans are going to appreciate his grand gesture. He has got his timing perfectly right.

yep it is. For all his failings..I've always liked the man (though I do not agree with all of the republican agenda). Think he is not as shrewd a politician as Clinton and others were. That's his major weakness. Then again we all know what Clintons weakness was :)

also note the unmistakeable writing between the lines...he is determined to stay the course. For better or for worse?Future historians will decide.

He is going to stay the course, but does he have any other option? They haven’t been able to unearth any WMD, haven't caught Saddam, their so called dream of bringing democracy in Iraq is in tatters and the financial windfall expected by the big corporations lead by Dick Cheney remains a pipe dream.

His government has to find a face saving solution pretty fast. Dramas such as these can help prolong the show, but ultimately they have to show results.

He has no option...but he did not have many going in either. He's one of the guys who sees in black and white...and what he saw scared him enough to go to war. Not to mention the economic pickings as a result of the same.
Also one has to realise that they have managed to keep a lot of neighbours of Iraq in check by going in. Sort of put them on notice. Democratization and economic benefits were not their only goals while going in (whatever they say or dont, publicly). Have they achieved all what the have wanted? Not yet. Time will tell.
Now a bit of rambling because I think I know where we are headed with this :)..
Are they right? This is iternational politics. Bush is running one of the most powerful countries in the world and he will do his damndest to keep it that way. Show me one leader, of any country in the world, who does not do the same and I'll show you a bad leader.
I'm not sure where right and wrong figure in this picture.

I have solutions but then so did Plato when he envisioned ''utopia''. We all know what utopia means now.

Most people confuse Iraq war with war on terror. I believe Iraq war was not about terror but about oil. Was Iraq a threat to the US? Was Saddam the greatest threat to the world peace? I think NO to both these questions. I support the war in Afghanistan but Iraq is a different matter. No Iraqi was involved in in planning, aiding or in execution of 9/11 attack. Almost all the people involved in the plot came from either Saudi Arabia or UAE- both good friends of the US. What was Iraq's part in the whole episode? Absolutely nothing. The Iraq war is about greed and nothing else. What has it succeeded in? Rise of Islamic terrorism in a land that was comparatively secular by the standards of the region.

I do not support any war. I think its quite myopic to think one war is justified and another is not.
All wars are about economics. No war is justifiable. It all boils down to material issues and control of trade. If you have any reason to suspect this look at any war in history and you will find that the underlying reason for war is control of assets.
Can you give me an example of a justifiable war? i.e: where economic supremacy, survival or ambitions of one of the involved parties was not at stake. I dont think you will find any.
