Countries= land with physical boundaries set by man that seek to promote their self interests. Democracy or otherwise.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!

actually did you know that the CIA brought rights to the Animal farm so that it can used as propaganda. I originally read it on one of the animation centered sites but could not find the article anymore. Here is another link about the same.

Most people looked at Animal Farm as an anti communist book. In fact it was George's frustration with corruption in communism that made him write the book.
Many commies in India protested against the book and had it removed from Panjabi Univ., Patiala although it is probably the best truth about failure of communism and "Democracyism"
Its a must for any serious thinker.

CPM,
I agree, I think its Orwells dig at both systems. However, I do think that he was more biased in the capitalists favour. I think Orwells '1984' supports this assumption on my part.

Orwell was a committed socialist for most of his life. Animal Farm was an anti-Stalinist allegory and 1984 depicted totalitarianism. The all seeing 'big-brother' in 1984 could be the 'greatest democracy' of our times.

Yes he was a comitted socialist. One can argue that you can be a socialist without being communist.

to have 2 back to back novels one in 1945 and other in 1949...would lend credence to the fact that Orwell was opposed to the totalitarianism that was typical of communism in those days.
One can also argue (like you seem to be doing...unless you are quoting from somewhere) that his writings were sort of a prophecy to the current times.
Anyway both these views are being widely debated in the circles of well-informed Orwellian Scholars. My expertise is only based on the analysis above two books (and very little of his life..he was born in India) and hence I must say that I am not fully qualified to assume I know what Orwell meant.
The jury is still out among scholars as to what Orwell actually was talking about.

I am not saying that he prophesied it, but some how it is where it is leading to. No doubt he had Stalinist Russia in mind when he wrote the book.
