Hello CD Members,
I am looking for suggestions to rent an apartment for a family of 3 (me, wife, 4.5 year old kid).. Its been a month since I moved (alone now), settled with my major problem ie.., Job then Bank A/C, OHIP, Driving license, Private Insurance, HRDC introductions, Job Hunting, Recruiters meeting etc..
Now I'm working in Downtown (Yonge/Bloor) in a good job to my expectations. I am looking for a place to rent which has good schools, at the same time I am looking at the commute issue ( I prefer either Sub way or Go).
I prefer a multi cultural area. More than my concerns, I look from my kids view. I hope many parents can understand the problem kids face if its a majority white, brown, black, yellow etc.., esp.., there are chances for kids to get alienated due to majority of any specific brand..
I initially considered living in a basement for a month or so with the family then buy a house in Meadowale or other mississauga area (close to Go station).. but I am stepping back from the idea as I feel I need to observe the local society, culture, formality, expecations a little more. For this reason I switched to the idea of renting a place. I initially considered moving to Oakville or the other place, I liked Lake shore (Lakeshore/10/mississauga) also but again it may be a problem for the Kid in school.
Child security is one another major thing I consider, literally there may not be any place which is secure by all means at the same time it is good to avoid places which are commonly affected by such incidents.
I am also reviewing Etobicoke (Dixie/Kipling), (Dixie/Islington), the problem is I had to end up collecting every basic details and its a tedious process. To me it looks like I am going to end up with either Mississauga or Etobicoke.
My budget is $1000 for a single bedroom. I wouldn't mind to go a little if the place is very attractive to my interests above..
Considering my preferences.
1. Good place for child (School, Safety, Child recreation such as Parks)
2. Close to Sub way or GO ( I can drive to station if its within 10 mins).
3. Good neighborhood..
If you know some good places, please suggest..
I want to thank you for reading my post..
Good luck..
JRF.

I'd suggest Don Mills/Sheppard. I've lived there previously, good multi-cultural location, good school, right on the subway, and rent for a 1BR should be around 1K. From there to downtown Yonge/Bloor around 45mins.

Try Yonge & Eglington. Very mutlicultural. I donot have idea baout rents but my friend used to live there.
Try Dundas/Bloor as well. There are schools close by. I have lived in this area for nearly 1.5 years and is good. Rent for a 1 bed is between $900 and $1000.

LIVE LIFE KINGSIZE..........
I actually agree with Kingfisher. Crossways at Dundas n Bloor subway is quite convenient.
Subway stop right opposite.,
Dundas street car , College st street car, King st street cars,. all run from here, 24/7
Loblaws is next door and so is price chopper.
Its good for people who work downtown and still not very crowded at same time.
In fact i am thinking of moving there myself this month.
