Just a few mins. ago, a lady called me and told me that me and another person who had signed up for a jackpot actually won a jackpot and that we were sure to win one out of 5 prizes (which incl. a 20 " plasma TV). The prize was guarenteed and was under no obligation. The lady said that we both (me and abother person) should come to the venue in mississauga tomorrow at 8:15 pm for the jackpot draw in our name with 2 pieces of ID.. When i said that the "other person" was not in Town, she said that "oh, only both of you should come and claim the prize. So sorry, but you are not eligible".
I knew that it must be a scam but badly wanted to see what it was actually. But since i was not eligible, i could not see what the scam was about.
Any other CD's have a similar experience?

They will try to sell timeshares or membership for wholesale club. If you survive the seminar and everything, you will get a prize. If you win a trip, you will have to for a seminar again from the company sponsoring the trip!

If they were insisting on attending with your wife, yes it is timeshare. It is not a scam but they will pressurize you to buy the timeshare. Sometimes 4 to 5 people will pressurize you. And most of them will be desis. One of the boss will be white. Your sales person and team lead is generally from the same country you are.

This did not look like a Time share one but it was something based on those line. First of all , she called me tomorrow night at 8:15 pm in Mississauga. She said that i was to witness a draw of 5 prizes in which i would be guareteed atleast 1.
I was just wondering if any other Desi was called to the same event.
As you said, when i said that the "other person" was not there, she said that i was in eligible to attend alone. She also ased me if i was an Indian which i said i was (after she heard that the "other person" is in India).
Just wanted know what else scam is there apart from Timeshare. She also said that the jack pot was held at 6:15, 7:15 and 8:15 and i could pick a slot.

When I attended my one and only one timeshare meeting, I too was told I was sure winner of one of the five prizes. The biggest prize was Hawaii vacation and lower version was Florida vacation.

Boy, how much they pressurized us. They even provided food.

They generally want both of you as major excuse for such purachses could be I have to talk to my other half. So they make sure both of you are there.
