Does anyone have any interview experience with Telus?
Right now my application is in process at Telus
I am done with first tech interview
background check
aptitude test
it all took me about 3 weeks
now i am waiting for another round of interview?
Heres the link of a good site http://www.interviewat.com
Last Month I had been to interview for Sr Technical Consultant Position. I remember two Questions very well because I think both these doesn't have right or wrong answer. Its perspective to me. I answered what I felt correct & crossed my mind at that time.
Employer: You will be engaged in Pre Sale Technical activity also. You need to sale Upgrade to your existing customer who had his last upgrade worth millions - 2 years back. New upgrade will cost more than previous.
Response: Looking at the cost involved, I am sure client is one of the Top. I'll study current environment and the benefits that upgrade will bring. I'll look at the current Bottle Neck and Requirements. Technically if it makes sense to me - sure, it will be easier for me to sell.
Employer: About Scheduling and Multitasking with 5-6 Projects/Tasks.
Response: If we are hitting road blocks in the sense that only I could do the job in limited number of hours. I'll let PMs to decide - said that with good . It could happen that I am not initially involved with customers on dead lines. So I wont be able to make calls & I should not be making calls on that without checking with PM. Rather Me going to all the PMs negotiating with dates. Its better if they sit together and chop me in pieces
Waiting for the Result of this 2nd Interview.

From "what types of questions" ... to "how to's"
1. Pause before you answer ANY questions. Don't speak out the first answer that comes to your mind. Think for a moment, then answer.
2. Don't jump on to fill a silence void. When you have said what you want to say just look at the interviewer and smile. Let him or her fill the silence void.
3. Remember the interviewer(s) name(s) and use them in your answers.
4. If you don't know an answer to a question say so. Don't pretend. Experienced interviewers will see straight through it.
5. Maintain good eye contact with the interviewer(s).
6. Be enthusiastic but not burbling
7. Being polite is always nice.
8. Dress appropriately. (I can't locate the dress-for-interview thread. MR, PP had good suggestions)
9. Reherse answers for questions mentioned by D2001
10. Try to answer questions by showing how you can "fix problems" for the interviewer(s). In other words tell them the benefits you can bring to them - NOT your features . ("I have a great way of dealing with customers" is different from "I like to show our customers how we can solve their problems."
11. Don't forget that an interview is a two way information exchange, so don't be afraid to ask a couple of questions yourself.
According to me...Initially, when candidate walks in and shakes ur hand, the canadidates confidence level is known to u immdly. All u have to do is make him feel comfortable asking him personal questions about him, his family and his past experience. This will give u insight of how desperate or eager the guy is, about working in ur organisation.
It does not work like this in Canada. You can get sued for asking personal questions.
Gulf (those days) is different from Canada. In Gulf, they donot care about who you hire. They only need a warm body. If the body is not warm enough, they will fire and hire a new warm body.
In Canada, it is not like that. Canadians pay very good salary and jobs are very few. Canadians dono like to waste money. So they need the perfect Candidate for the job. So first there is screening of resumes based on name / work experience / nationality of the Candidate ( they will see this or guess this from the resume).
Then they will have 2 or 3 rounds of interviews and see how the JD will match the Candidate.
Then last is the salary negotiation. It is not like Gulf. It is totally different. You will have to change your mindset and outlook in Canada.

Lol ! This was in the front page of this thread and it is dated 2006.
I laugh at it now as it seems the SAME response as HW36 gives at this time, in various postings.
Looks like people will mature over time.

Actually interviews are very important as this determines how effect your human resource will be in coming future and will it function efficiently.
The interview may be basic @ for a basic position like labor and all but as we go up in hierarchy - the salaries , decision making and hence efficiency of the right candidate goes up.
Top notch companies conduct a good round of interviews .... They don't mind losing a few good ones but cannot afford to hire a single wrong one as this will tell upon their operational efficiency and hence profitability.

Fido.
TK gives wrong impression about gulf countries.
Not really. I have worked there and also am in close contact with many people.
Gulf has a shortage of manpower plus the owners are not technically competant. So they take Indians and whites to do the job.
If the White people are given the responsibility, they can see the project through from start to finish. They need Indians or other skilled workers to help them. Sometimes, visa's are given to travel agencies and the agencies recruit idiots and send them.
When I was recruited from India to Saudi, my manager (again an indian), told infront of us that the owner idiot is bringing idiots for me to train. Later I taught my manager how to draft properly. The Indian was a very clever talker and a smooth one too. He became my friend soon.
Gulf owners are there only for taking Gawa tea and see that the attendence. They also monitor only the completion date.
Canada is totally, totally different from Gulf.
