Indian people are very selfish. Nowadays, even parents encourage their children to marry the NRI, so that they can settle in Canada, USA, etc.

Ashwani,
I was from a middle class family in Tamil nadu. My parents encouraged me to do the same as what KublaKhan said and I knew many that i knew all gave their daughters to software engr's in these countries so that their daughters could have a good life. Gents of Tamil nadu left their original professions to join computers so that they could get a job in NA and lead a joyful life in NA.

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Few of my friends had similar experience and all of them are girls . They got married to boys ( most of them younger than them ) from Jordan , Pakistan etc . ( not India) and left the girls once they got teh GC . My feeling is very few Indians do these kind of things and I feel more people from other nations like Phillipinos, Chinese, Vietnamese, Pakistanis and Middle Eastern people do these more often. The reason behind this is teh lake of education to compete with qualified people who can come to US and Canada by themselves. Most Indians who land here has a good educational background.
And also mostly men community do these because they take the esponsibility to send money to their family back home. Very few Indian girl's parents will be willing to sacrifice their daughters life for this reason.
TK I don't see anything wrong in wishing good life for kids ...All parents wants to marry her daughter to a person who can support his family . My father wanted me to become an engineer because he wanted me to see leading a quality life . All he never wanted was that I go abroad ...

Women deserted by NRI husbands to get legal aid

NEW DELHI: With complaints of women being deserted by their NRI
husbands on the rise, the Government has launched a scheme to provide
them with financial assistance and legal aid overseas.
Under the scheme, counselling and legal services would be provided
through credible Indian women's organisations or Indian community associations and NGOs that will be empanelled with the country's
missions, Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi told Rajya
Sabha in a written reply.
The scheme has been launched in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia,
New Zealand and the Gulf and is aimed at helping women who have been
deserted by their overseas Indian spouses or are facing divorce
proceedings.
"The scheme is a welfare measure to support women of Indian origin in distress, through the mobilisation of the local Indian community in the endeavour and with some financial assistance from the
Government," Ravi said.
The women will also be provided with financial assistance to meet
the initial cost and incidental charges for documentation and filing
of the case by the Indian women's organisation or NGO on the women's
behalf.
The number of complaints received by the Ministry of OverseasIndian Affairs has been on the rise in the last three years.
While 19 complaints were received in 2005, the number went up to 65
in 2006. So far, this year 89 complaints have been received.
