Hello Friends,
I applied for visitors visa (Canada) for my parents in India - Date requested were from September 2006 to Feb 2006.
They applied for these dates in July. The visa officer gave them a visa for 6 months starting July. Pretty stupid! I crearly read on their website that it is better to apply few months in advance. Anyway, I want my paternts to visit me in september for 6 months after that and not right now.
What is teh solution? Please recomment me something that is easy for them to manage. I appreciate your time and help.
Looking forward to your reply or an email at
Regards,
Bipin
Normally, the day the visa is issued is when the visa validity begins. Unfortunately, in your parents' case, they were given only 6 months and hence your requested dates don't match what they gave your parents.
However, they are normally allowed to stay for a max of 6 months from the date they enter. Therefore, they can still enter in Sep 2006 (while their visa is still valid) and depart in Feb 2007 (even when their visa would have been expired).
Visa is only for entry, not for stay. The duration of stay is dictated by the port of entry officer. If no stamp is placed on the passport indicating the valid duration of stay, they can stay upto 6 months.

Don't have any documented links on this, however in every case I've heard of, visa has been issued (by Port of Entry officer, especially at airports) for 6 months from date of entry, not the date mentioned on the visa.
You can verify this with other sources as well, however in my opinion, they'll get a six month stay duration starting Septmeber if that's when they'll land.

Are you there?
NO, I differ on this with all others. This is just my opinion. I might be wrong. They will get stamp date from port of entry only of the duration visa for which is valid. so they will not be able to stay for six months.
But yes, the option you have is after they come here, u can get their visa / stay extended by applying in canada.
