Hello CD members,
An Adult that i know wants to learn Car driving. Though i have taught this adult to drive in my Car, this individual wants to take 10 classes from a driving instructor and also attend classes for Driving certificate. I live in South Etobicoke area. This Adult lives with me.
From today morning , this individual called 20 driving instructor companies. In some the fees were as high as $900 to the lowest at $295. The $295 one comes with a 45 min. drive for $20 while the costly one is 45 min. drive is $25.
We zeroed 4 driving schools with a price tag of $295 to $340. We told the Driving schools to find instructor for this individual. Only one called back and he refused to come at 7:30 pm - 8:30 time slot. Another person who was recommended to us said that he was free only next week.
I remember that in 2002-2004 when i was in Canada and learning Driving, Instructors were a Dozen to a Dime and they even drove as far as 20 kms. just for pick ups (Free of Charge). It is not the case anymore.
Some drivers in the North York area want us to come to a subway near the instructor's office / house from where they will pick us up for a ride.
What is Canada coming to these days? Looks like Driving Instruction is a good field to get into or is it that we donot know the proper contacts?
Just my views.

Dear TK,

This is due to the high amounts of immigrants pouring in and hence the supply-demand is offset. This is a good potential opportunity for a self-employed/ business.

You get a Toyota-Corolla on lease, and you need to pay a higher Insurance premium for being a instruction car. I know of this guy(you can find his advertisement splattered all over the Kaveri Supermarket) who does this full time along with his wife. He teaches 12 hours a day, while his wife teaches about 6 hours per day. They work all the 7 days with a rate of $20 per hour (CASH). Their average earnings is around $360 per day. He does this for 8 months, while in the 4 months(winter) he is active in his DEFENSIVE Driving course. There he conducts classes every week end and charges $100 per course.

I've seen his house in 2004 and this is somewhere Dundas(W)/Mavis. It was valued at $450,000 at that time(FULLY Detached house with 2 car parking). He has been in Canada since last 20years and after driving a taxi he has started this business since last 6 to 7 years. His children all are studying in college. I do not think that he has even gone to High School.

His annual income on a conservative estimate of working for 8 months is $65,000. He has the choice of cancelling a class, going home for break fast, lunch and he can take a nap in the afternoon. He also does his groceries while teaching his students.

How many of us can have this work flexibility, earn in CASH and be self - employed and listen to & put up with some stupid boss/co-workers.

The moral of the story is if you want financial success in Canada, START Your OWN business ASAP, and here is a potential business opportunity.

who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Hi,

Don't you need to be a licensed instructor to teach driving?

If you aren't, teach and god forbid, if there was to be an accident.......... what are the civil and criminal liablities involved?

Thought of that?

As for what you wrote

" The moral of the story is if you want financial success in Canada, START Your OWN business ASAP..................."

You are 1000 % RIGHT!

Thanks for pointing it out.

I assumed that the person would have gone through the process of obtaining a license. For this you need to have 4 years of driving experience in Canada, and have a G license. You need to undergo a course, pass exams and obtain your Teachers permit. This is one year process. This is very simple as most of the Desis are highly educated and can pass exams very fast.
